NOCO chargers

    Recently my battery died. I went out and bought a NOCO charger to charge the battery up. I was getting red error lights that the battery was messed up. I bought a new battery. I went to charge up the new battery as they only have 80% charge from new, same error messages. I took the charger back to the store for a replacement. Got home and plugged in and battery starts to charge. So nothing was wrong with the old battery. Just a US company farming their products out to China to make for cheap, with no quality control and then sold to the poor consumer that makes him spend more due to their crap working practice.
    I spoke to NOCO and they said that the battery must have been the wrong type and their products are OK. (why do they advertise this charger as a motorcycle battery charger) Told them I had swapped out the charger and now works fine. Also sent them a picture of the old YTZ12S battery.
    Come back to me, yep should have charged that battery. Maybe there was a internal fault in the charger. No f'ing kidding...
    Since then I have read up reports on their chargers... everything from faults like mine to burning out and boiling dry the batteries. Failure to stop charging when battery is full.
    So NOCO products are shit!

    Have been using motorcycle CTEK to top up my VFR800s battery for over a decade, had extended my last Yuasa battery life to over 7 years.

    Bought the CTek originally as it can be 3-4 weeks between rides and used to get an electrical smell for the first 15 minutes, ever since no more smell so suspect it helps the charging system as well.

    I have a NOCO G3500 for my lithium moto bats and and a G7200 for my truck when it sits. I highly recommend, due to their flexibilty. I have the CTEK that I used to use when I dealt AGM bats on my 6g, also a good charger for that.

    I also have a CTEK and a Honda Branded charger/maintainer. Use them all the time on my two bikes, and they cycle on and off. Both work really well and I've never had a problem with them, on AGM batteries. A few years back I had a cheaper charger overcharge a battery and ruin it. Since then I stay with the better charger/maintainers.

    One thing to check with any charger/tender is to use a volt meter at the battery and see how much charging voltage it is putting out. Most motorcycle batteries, in good state of charge, left on a tender, will maintain the voltage at around 13 volts. Perfect for long term storage of a 12 volt battery.
