Hi everyone! I've been riding for the 10 months, after getting my license for the heck of it with an MSF course a year of a half ago. Bought a 2005 BMW F650CS with a top case and put about 7k miles on it, all the while and falling in love with riding so much that I sold my car last month!

I have been on the hunt for a 2017 CB100 EX but, between slow dealership response and high OTD prices, decided to go with my darkhorse choice of the VFR. Bought a 2015 DLX last weekend with 8.5k miles and rode it 2 hours home.

The riding position, wind noise, and engine response is so different. There is no more CLANK after every shift and I can finally see cars in the side mirror past 50mph. VTEC is perfect for me since I typically ride conservatively but the rooompph is there past 6800rpm!

I did have a couple of questions though..

    1) Right handgrip, at high speed coasting (past 75mpg) has such a buzz that it put my hand to sleep after 25mins. I figure I'd change the bar ends and put some grip puppies on to alleviate that. No buzz at all on the left grip though! What is the most likely solution to this?

    2) When coming to a stop at 1st gear, I hear a whirring noise from below the bike. Is this the radiator? I don't hear it when coming to a stop in 2nd or neutral.

I plan to get everything figured out so I can start touring with it. Previous owner placed a Jedi Order sticker on the left fairing so I decided to make the bike Star Wars themed haha. Super stoked to keep riding!!

Hi and welcome to the MadHouse:Welcome:

That looks a very smart 8th Gen, which with proper servicing can cover vast distances with ease.

As I do not own an 8th Gen I can only guess at what may be behind your questions.

However some riders can end up holding the bars too tight and on longer runs that will tend to create grip issues. Remember unlike your left hand, your throttle hand will rarely get relief from stress resisting the throttle attempting to roll off except when waiting at lights. If you are doing long highway trips you may consider fitting a cheapo Vista Cruise throttle lock or some sort of aftermarket cruise control. That way, once the bike is up to speed on a clear freeway, you can set the throttle lock and leave it to keep the RPM steady, allowing you to completely release your grip on the throttle and shake off any developing cramp in your throttle hand.

As for noises - it is probably nothing to worry about and probably just the radiator fan operating - these bikes run hot so knowing your radiator fan is working is a good thing especially if you live in warm states like Arizona. Depending on ambient conditions and how hot the bike is when you pull to a stop, you should hear the fan running. Once the bike is moving at speed you are unlikely to hear it as there should be plenty of air flow through the radiator so the fan should switch off.

Ride safe this VFR one must.

Welcome and congrats on the beautiful white VFR.
Try the puppies and as Skimad suggested, relax on the grip a tad. Been using grip puppies for 8 years now, love them.
    Be safe out there

Appreciate the welcome guys! Sounds good. I'll order some grip puppies soon and take a look at better bar ends. I think a lot of it has to do with my grip.. I'm comfortable with whatever seat height it's on now and I'm gonna take a look at that too. Hopefully throttle lock soon too. I had my second fill of gas the other day and cleared 200 miles as empty started flashing. I gotta say I love this bike!!! With the fan, I am pretty nervous for how the bike will be in stop/go traffic in July here..

On another note, nearby dealership held a Ducati demo day yesterday. First bike I rode was the new Ducati SuperSport. Have to say the VFR seemed better in many ways. Surprised to find that the Duc had a less aggressive riding position (I'm 5'7"). The side fairings left open views into the engine compartment when you're riding (the VFR has black trim that covers it up). Looked worse in quality. Worst thing though was that the Duc feels like a V-twin engine and rides like a revvy V-twin; it's just dressed up as a supersport. Kinda weird!

Also, it was a cool $14k for the demo model lol.

Awesome, thanks! I also heard the same noise shifting into first with the clutch pulled in on a Scrambler 1100 this weekend and calmed my fears a bit. For me, the next bit is getting comfy doing chain maintenance every week or two haha.

Somethings not right if the right bar is buzzing like that excessively. Check that everything is tight and there is actually a bar end weight installed. 1st gear whine is just the transmission gears, no problem. I like it in White.

Yeah, it's only at high speed cruising (above 75mph) but I'll putting on some grip puppies today and hopefully checking the difference on a longer ride this weekend. I just wanna make sure it's not some balancing issue! I'll check the bar end as well, thanks!
