Seat's re-done, need to re attach the hardware and strap ends, looks a bit lighter in the photos than it really is.

I didn't do it myself, I took it to a local upholstry shop. $175 CAD and I have a the rest of the full yard of vinyl left . A man has to know his limitations (well, I know mine any way), Upholstery is best done by those who are good at it and have access to industrial sewing machines for the straps etc. Kinda like the main part of the paint job's, I leave that to my buddy Al , a professional. As much as I love painting, it needs to be done right.

Got the second set of forks finished today too, used the stock springs and spacers. I'll sell the heavier duty ones from the race bike.

Should really consider the heavier springs. 1000Rs are grossly undersprung. And the preload needed to make it stiff enough introduces other issues.

Well, I have them here if I need them later. I shy'd away from them after the feedback here that Id be chasing my tail for ever trying to get them sorted out and set up.

It was easier to go stock for now. I can change 'em easy enough if I keep them. So, based on your advice, ill hangon to them just in case.

I have all the best brake parts assembled and clutch slave/master all set to go, will install that next weekend after I pick up some brake fluid for bleeding. I also put together a set of clocks using the nicest parts of another 2 sets. Odometer matches the Engine.

I get it. But if I ever HAD to choose between completely stock with stock springs and stock with stiffer springs, I would take stiffer. Hell, what choice did someone have in 1985? They put in heavier springs and maybe upped the oil to 10wt. That bike is pushing 600 lbs.

But, yes, in a perfect world we convert all of our 80s bikes to custom catridge with proper springs and oil height to match our $400 custom shock out back.

Oh speaking of oil height, don't be afraid to up that some too.

Upper Fairing Stay is back on, Brakes are on (not bled), and Next up is re-connecting all the wiring. Finally bought an ultrasonic cleaner, so Ill have a go at the carbs soon as well.

Bit more progress on the bike. Started to clean the Carb's, but before I start to disassemble, I want the outside as clean as I can get them. Im also dealing with a slew of black spray paint that was on the carbs as well (just like the rest of the bike)

Looking good! Be careful with the battery "door", it can start chipping the frame paint when fully extended.

good point, will put a bit of tape on the frame for now, thanks.

I put coolant and oil in it yesterday, will bleed the brakes and the clutch this weekend.

I'm waiting for a small basket set to arrive to use with my ultrasonic cleaner so i can safely put jets and small parts into it. Gonna wait till they arrive before I tear into the carbs. The small baskets are actually stainless steel spherical mesh baskets for Tea, ie you put Tea-leaves in them to make a cup of tea . bought a set of 4 off Amazon. Problem is they're coming form China with free shipping, so that usually means waiting for ever and a day. We will see if my patience can last that long

Carb set 1 is disassembled and ready for cleaning. Carb set 2 still intact for VFR Carb rookie reference. Thanks again to MagnAndy for his videos on youtube, they're a tremendous help in the process. I have cleaned carbs off inline 4's and inline / v twins before, but this is more complicated.

Set 1 disassembled into separate parts bins
    [IMG]

bodies of set 1 in the cleaner, need to put the bowls in there too yet. Ill do the smaller parts separately
    [IMG]

Set 2 - not touching these till set 1 is done

I got the 4 individual Carbs rebuilt and back together. Next up is connecting the 4 units back together.

Picked up some stuff to start sanding and polishing the stainless steel Hindle 4-1 pipes.

And i've selected the best bits of the 4 sets of spare bodywork that i have to begin prep. I chose the stuff that's not had any past repairs vs the stuff that looks cosmetically better. I find the heavier the body parts are the more filler and glass work they have had done and i end up spend more time fixing shoddy bodywork that was done by bubba over the past 30+ years.
