Awesome. Keep everything somewhat "loose" until you get the plenum back down started onto the dowels.

The Hindles I have are all nickel plated mild steel. Yours are really stainless? Cool.

    Will do, thanks

I believe so. They guy i got 2 of the bike's from use to race in the 80's/90's, Hindle was one of his sponsors and gave him the pipes. How would I tell for sure if they are stainless ? you can see them in post 28 of this thread. while they are "tarnished" they are not rusty, only the stock rear header pipes that you see in that pic have typical rust on them.

they look alot like the stainless exhaust system on my truck looked like after 3 years. Certainly not the polished stainless ive had on other bikes (like my old Bandit), but there are many different grades of SS

A magnet won't stick to them. Or if they are very low quality stainless, it won't stick very well.

No material progress on the VF1kR this past few weeks. I just finished a 2nd set of Carbs, but now I need to finish the 4 into 1 Hindle pipe and get the Carbs installed. then it will be that nail biting time to try and start it.

I sold my 86 VF500F on Saturday. Once the Brakes are sorted on my 85 VF500 Rothmans (Still not got back to sorting the soft lever) it will be sold as well.

Time to down size the collection

I get it. But I couldn't let any of my V4s go. Too much work, too much connection. I'm planning on selling one of my vintage project bikes, CL175K0. Was going to do a cafe treatment, but all I see is dollar signs when I look at it. To do it the way I want, far more money than I want to spend. And that project is like 6 or 7 down the line. It will buy tires and suspension upgrades on other bikes and I won't (probably) regret it. I told my wife I don't ever want to say, "I wish I never sold that."

im honestly not attached to most of my bikes, if it came right down to it I could sell most of them and just hang onto 2, one new bike (VFR800) and one old one (likely my NS400R).

I had an extensive collection of classic muscle sleds (snowmobiles), about 20 of them, most of which I painstakingly restored and won many trophies at shows, one day I decided i'd had enough, sold the lot and moved onto bikes. No emotional attachment for me, lots of passion and dedication while im at it, but once ive decided enough is enough, im OK with selling.

Im a bit of a magpie to be honest, I see a shiny bike I like and have to have it, so ......I sell a few to fund the next shiny object :) on my list now a Yamaha MT01, 1700 cc's of Air cooled Twin , monster torque in a standard muscle bike format, awesome. I love the look, but for some folks they're a bit too "jugde dred" in appearance :)

Hindle 4-1 exhaust is cleaned up, re-painted the headers, re finished the end can, and installed it on the bike today.

    Carbs are being installed next.

on a separate note, I found a Yamaha MT01, pick it up April 6th weekend all being well

a few more poorly focused pictures - need a new camera, my auto focus is F'd. The Hindle 4-1 went on with no issues at all, and ive picked the best of the upper & lower fairings. need to decide which tail unit and which tank ill use. The tail unit thats been partially sanded (prev owner) looks to be into best structural shape, so will likely go with that one.

Good progress. And congrats on finding the Yam.

My '85 1000R pulls nice and hard with that Hindle installed. Ground clearance is not the best, be careful. On one of my first rides I beveled mine for clearance using the road. And I carefully used a weird shaped speed bump to put a little flattened section in it too. This was a new, out of the box, system. I even had a little ride height added to my DMr shock. :(

    Thanks, will do.

Will try to get around to installing the carbs this weekend, they're just sitting in there just now.

    ITS ALIVE !!

    Today was a good day.

I finally got the last of the parts onto the bike (Carbs, Coils etc) and after swapping out the starter with a spare one (it was dead for some reason), I fired the VF1000R for the first time on spray. After that it was on to attaching the remote fuel bottle and the bike ran and idled great after a small adjustment !. She sounds pretty good with the Hindle pipe, I can tell she will snap and snarl pretty good on the overrun with that pipe.

Ive got no rear lights just now (except brake lights) so I have to sort that out, then its on to the bodywork

    Happy Happy Happy

still have to run the bike again and check the Voltage Reg/Rec (notoriously shite on the 80's Hondas).

I started the plastic welding on the seat cowls, thats done, but im waiting for my plastex kit to arrive as I need to form a few new tabs.

I'll be using Polyall2000 to repair the fibreglass upper and lower fairings. Pollyall2000 is more effective than fibreglass resin when used with the Mat or cloth. it starts out being the same viscosity as water (so it penetrates the original damaged panel much better than resin) and it hardens in 10 minutes. Ive used Polyall2000 for many years, for secondary fibreglass repairs, there is no better solution in my opinion. Its a 2 part urethane plastic, mixes like water and hardens fast. You have to work in small batches but its a great way to go. Ill post pics when I get to that part.
