I grew up on Honda motorcycles and ATV's as a kid. It's been a while, so I may be a bit off on the years and model numbers, but I believe they were:

    '82 Z50R (new)
    '85 XL80S (new)
    '86 TRX125 (new)
    '86 Elite CH150D (used around 1989)

I didn't have another motorcycle until I bought a new Ninja 250 in 2005 that was stolen the following year and never recovered.

Last week, I had the itch to buy a 500-650cc motorcycle in the $5,000-6,000 range. I was browsing local dealer inventory when I stumbled across a "new" five year-old motorcycle (which I thought was kinda weird) that seemed to offer a lot of performance and features for the price. Until then, I had never heard of the VFR800/Interceptor. I spent some time reading reviews, watching videos, and learning about it and decided that it was too good of a value to pass up.

After receiving a quote from the dealer, I countered with $7,000 out-the-door including 6.25% tax and loaded it up in the back of my 2019 Ridgeline after work.

Oh the old CH, I had a one of the first CH125's back in 1984. I worked at a local honda dealer and lived at home. I could not get the V65 Saber or the new VFR Interceptor due to my parents signing of on it, but they would let my get the CH. Lots of fun times as a junior & senior in high school and the ladies. Thank god the speed limit back then was 55mph and it had a top speed of 53. I did get on the freeway a couple of times. Shit I am old!;-)

Haha! I took my CH off road and even drove it on the Interstate. Back then, the speed limit was 65. The extra 25cc and my weight helped it top out about 63 if I remember correctly. I was enthralled by the pop-up headlight and digital instrument cluster. I was somewhat spoiled and unappreciative back then - I had just wrecked my TRX125 and my father and a friend of his rebuilt it, but I refused to ride a wrecked vehicle and threw a temper tantrum. Dad sold it leaving me with only a bicycle. After a few months of attitude adjustment, he bought me the used CH150D. At first, I wasn't happy because it was used and because it wasn't very "cool", but I grew to love it.

My father rode mostly HD's until he was no longer able. I never became interested in loud, vibrating motorcycles that leaked oil or some of the culture surrounding them. Instead, I preferred the quieter, smoother, reliable Hondas. As is often the case with Honda owners, my garage looks like a Honda store - Honda truck, Honda motorcycle, Honda generator, Honda mower, and Honda engine on a pressure washer. I'm on my 11th new Honda automobile in the last 13 years including my fifth Ridgeline.

Welcome to The World! I'm sure you'll find the VFR to be a well rounded bike that should fill just about any riding needs, sans off-road! Congratulations on your new ride.

Thanks for the welcome! The viffer is way more bike than I need/want, but I couldn't see spending the same money on something less comfortable and capable with half the number of cylinders - the value was too good to pass up. Motorcycling is little more than a "pool season" hobby for me. I don't ride in inclement weather or for long distances and have no interest in commuting on one. It would be unusual for me to put more than a couple thousand miles per year on one.

I'm about an hour West of Shreveport.

I'm normally not one to modify things - particularly using aftermarket accessories, but bar risers are in order. Honda's 0.6" risers seem overpriced and not quite tall enough. I'll probably order the 0.9" MotoPumps tomorrow.

I ordered and installed the MotoPumps 0.9" risers - they didn't seem to make much difference just sitting still, but they made a noticeable difference while riding. Money well spent.

We had a couple of warmish days lately and I've managed to put almost 100 miles on the VFR so far. The more familiar I get with it, the more I enjoy riding it - what a GREAT bargain it is at less than half its original price!

It was getting lonely sitting in the garage by itself, so I decided to buy a 2019 PCX 150 to keep it company. Despite the obvious and dramatic differences between the two, they're both a blast to ride. I'll probably ride the PCX to work and the grocery store (gotta love the 110+ MPG and massive underseat storage) and save the VFR for special occasions.

I found two, lightly-used PCX's on Craigslist, but both sellers stopped responding after I said I was interested. What the heck? Out of frustration, I just bought a new one with a full warranty.

Just some updates since my last post...

One of the Craiglist sellers came through and I bought a 2018 PCX150 with less than 500 miles for about half the price of a new one. I had planned to sell it to my brother, but he lost his job and I ended up trading it for a new 2019 Grom that I ended up riding most of the time. It got totaled when I was rear-ended by a distracted driver on my way home from work last month.

Because I rarely rode the VFR and because there's far too much distracted driving these days, I put the VFR up for sale and sold it last night for 88% of what I paid for it. Ironically, the buyer had originally tried to buy the same VFR from the same dealer back in March, but I beat him to it. It's funny how things work out sometimes! That leaves the 2019 PCX150 as my only two-wheeler. I plan to keep it and use it for quick trips to the grocery store, but not for commuting.

I'm currently in the market for a new Miata Grand Touring as my next toy, but they are almost impossible to find with a manual transmission. For now, I'll just enjoy the extra room in the garage. :)

Another update. I found a new Miata last Fall and stopped riding the PCX. I sold it a few weeks ago. The guy who bought my VFR put about 300 miles on it then put it up for sale a few months later. Nobody seems to want the poor VFR. :(
