If you went for a short ride it may have needed to charge at 14.2v because the batt needed it. When you ride it longer the r/r will lower the votage going to the batt at idle. That is my experience anyway.

Removed the wheel stripes, because I have a new set coming in. Hopefully from better quality material.

A few days ago I also had the front wheel up in the air by accident coming off a roundabout. Twisted the throttle a little too hard in first gear and the front wheel went light :wheelie:
That was a very first for me because never in my life had I done a wheelie on a motorized vehicle.

This weekend gone I shaved my seat down, and today I gave the wheels a good clean, and a coating of muckoff protection to help cleaning after this point

Ordered new air filter, oil filter and oil. And finally got my Ram Mount steering stem adapter and tank bag ring mounted.
Also ordered a pair of handlebar risers for added comfort. The old war horse is getting more and more suited for some summer touring.

What did I do to my VFR today? Nothing! 20*F below normal temps, no snow five hours before this mid-afternoon photo.
    Depressing.

My first oil and filter change on gen5. Not bad, but I think I will be ordering some extra push pins.

Handlebar risers arrived today. They feel like a very solid product and should be very easy to install.
Can't wait to get them on and take them for a long ride.

    Update:
The risers went no easy, feel solid and don't change the look in any negative way.
Went for a 150 mile ride and they really improve comfort.
I would definitely recommend them for any 5th gen.

Literally dug her out of her winter nest one day, and also did a _little_ commute on her.

She needed some persuading to start, but nothing that a full car battery could'nt do.

When I started, temp was below freezing and it was snowing and raining on and off, with a nice layer of slush covering the road. "Happily" that turned into wet roads and rain quite quickly. After going for about 6hrs, I had wet and frozen fingers and toes, stopped for a bathroom break, some food and a pair of warm socks.. luckily it stopped raining after the break and roads dried up, although temp was still close to freezing, but it was almost not irritating.

The way back was slightly more fun, with dry roads and the sun out, I could even ride at 100mph from time to time. Still had frozen fingers and toes though.

Not bad for a 440mi/700km ride on friday and abou the same on the way back on sunday.

(That roaddust/salt/brakedust mixture sure grabs a good hold of the wheels and the fairing..)[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

Been noticing an intermittent clutch slippage under WOT recently. Flushing out the year old brake fluid in the clutch system didn't do the trick, so
    20190420_133028.jpg

Measured all the friction plates. Resulting in almost new spec, nowhere near the service limit.
Measured the free length of the springs and found them to be close to the service limit, but still useable.
The one thing I did not like is the wear that you can see on the outer basket here
    20190420_135129.jpg
I can feel the small dips when I run my fingertip across the surface.
I carefully slid some 440 grit sand paper across the surface of each one a couple of times to see if it would help in the short run (I don't assume it will be a final repair). Put everything back together, and took it for a test ride.
I could not make it slip in the 45 minute test run. I even pushed it to a GPS speed of 130 and 137mph in the last two runs. I think it has more top end speed, I let up because a car was approching an upcomming intersection of which I had the right of way, but I wanted to avoid any potential problem.

    Wow.

I'd maybe have done some of that when I was 20. Rode the CB350 to college when it was about 20F, 15 miles, and I was way too cool not to do chit like that! (Heck,, I ride studly, so cold as hell is no big deal.)

But at more than three times that age now, it is No Effing Way!

Congrats on the thawed/frozen two-wheeling. You just might be the knew Forum Hero!

Seriously, great ride and stellar report.

I just looked at her and started ruminging around for parts for the Colorado ride. found the Sena comm set, the inline utility set up for charging the phone and others, found my little tire pump, ordered more tire co2 canisters for my tusk repair kit, played with my new GoPro Hero 7 and ordered accessories, ordered new fuses when I blow them out, got confirmation on my new riding pants being shipped, checked my chain, checked my tires, filled her up with true gas which due to the gov is getting crazy again, Know that I need to change the rear brake cylinder fluid- did the fronts because they where worse last summer. my oil has another 4,000 miles and the coolant is a year and a half old.

Just added a Techmount Techgripper phone/gps holder. I had a RAM X-mount on my Ninja but didn't like the grips always interfering with phone's buttons so thought I would give this a try.

The installation is fairly straightforward. Remove the plastic cap and insert a supplied sleeve. Slip a ball mounted stem into the sleeve. Turn a hex bolt to expand and increase the tension and you're done. Mostly.

I found on the Gen 6 that the o-rings on the stem weren't thick enough to create enough tension with the sleeve so I purchased some thicker o-rings and that did the trick. Also they supply a wet wipe to moisten the o-rings, it's okay but I recommend getting some liquid soap and use that instead otherwise the o-rings tend to jump out of their channels.

Finally, the kit has a very long wired pigtail that you run up from the battery to the front of the bike that mates with another pigtail that is hardwired into the Techmount. Lot's of excess wire that you have to deal with, I just coiled it up.

The mount holding a Nuvi gps.

Going to give it's first run tomorrow when I go get my new tires. See how readable and useable the gps is at that angle and height.

I finally replaced my instrument bulbs with these LED ones:
    https://www.superbrightleds.com/mor...b-5-led-miniature-wedge-retrofit-car/199/875/
I had two out for the last year, now all replaced with the new ones.
Went with the warm white to keep lighting as it was with the original bulbs.
I can report that they are great, a bit brighter but only by a smidgen, I thought of going to red but decided not to experiment.
