So, NorCalBoy and I have been in contact a bit since I got my "new to me" 5th gen and we live in the same state, albeit roughly 4.5 hours apart. Today, we decided to meetup partway between us, in a historic little town called Prescott, AZ. It was about 2.5 hours for me, but almost 4 hours for NCB... thank for taking the long drive NCB!!

It was really great to get out on a long ride and experience what this bike has to offer. I've definitely missed my 6th gen, but this 5th gen... well, it's like riding on a cloud. I DO miss the V-tech surge when I want to pass someone, but the 5th gen certainly holds her own. On the ride back I ended up inadvertently mixing it up with a Harley rider and I'm still not sure I understand what he was doing... I spotted him when I was miles away, and I was doing a steady 90MPH and slowly catching up, so I figured he was doing less than 90... duh. Once I caught up to him, I had to do about 110 just to keep the same distance between us. I was in the left lane, and he would move to the right lane as if to let me pass, then immediately put his left blinker on, as if to move back in the left lane. I had no idea what he was doing, so after a couple times, I just downshifted and blew past him. I dropped it back down to 90 again and after a while he caught up, slowly passed me and immediately got in front of me, almost cutting me off. Well, I didn't want to mess with this guy being in front of me, so I downshifted and blew past him again, this time only more aggressively, and before I knew it I was doing 150mph. The VFR had much more to go, but I didn't feel like getting pulled over at that speed, so I dropped back down to 90. Didn't see the guy again. But, it sure was nice to let it loose a bit and see what she can do. So amazing to me that a 20 year old bike with only 13k miles, that has sat for a while, can come to life again and be so tight, just like a brand new bike. These V-4s are pretty awesome machines.

It was great getting to catch up with NorCalBoy... It's funny, I think we only met once, probably 10 years ago, but due to all of the interactions we had here back then, it seems like we've been old friends forever. We got to snap a quick pic before parting ways. Thanks for lunch at Gato Azul, NCB!! Hope to see you again soon!! Great catching up!!

It would have been incredibly cool, if you had been texting at the same time

Great to see ya, K! Hope to do it again, soon! You haven't aged a bit in a decade and I look like a piece of albino jerky, lol.

The moto is in amazingly great shape and it sure was fun to talk VFR's on a nice afternoon, in a great location, with great company.

Once I get my phone mount setup, I'll be texting at the ton and beyond again, don't you worry! :Llama:

Oh, make no mistake, Vfrwja, the ONLY reason it happened was because NCB ran out of things he can do until he gets parts back. If he had work to do on the bike, he would have been doing that instead of driving all over creation to meetup with me!! The boy has his priorities straight!!

It's a long drive/ride up for NCB, but if he is willing/able to do it, yes, it would be great if the three of us could get together. There are some other AZ VFRW peeps too, so as it gets closer, we can put the word out and see who can make it for a meeting with the Prime Minister... :Canada:

cool meetup. yeah, i sat on the same Prescott courthouse lawn in the shade and watched passing traffic and whisky row a couple times too. had a lower rad hose break just gliding into town from the south one time, rotted out from small oil leak in stator cover, able to snip off a section and continue.

when conditions are right, az has some of the finest ridin roads in the usa as long you keep a lookout for sand and gravel, of which the state is entirely composed. ;)

so you got NCB out of his well-appointed garage and away from his study of technical manuals for a few hours, good work !
