I made one for my XF when it tipped over in the wind.
Good thing the sidestand was hollow, so I could put a threaded rod in it.

    So about drops:
Suzuki XF650 Freewind: 3 times (I guess you learn from your mistakes)
    - Lowsider on a roundabout, rainy, cold weather and fresh diesel tracks. Rear wheel slipped at 30km/h.
Damage: broken off bar-end, broken off handguard, bent gear shift lever. No fairing damage :)
    - Small crash, car came from the right (he has to yield), ran into his front bumper.
Damage: his front bumper came off and wiper reservoir broke, I had a bent gear shift lever
    - Dropped on driveway, was too early and I was in a hurry, no damage

    NC700X: 0 times

    VFR800: 0 times (for now) *added 25 jan 19: Guess I jinxed myself: +1

    Almost drops:
NC700X: foot slipped in garage, got traction at the end and kept the bike upright :)
VFR800: probably everytime I ride out of the driveway. Seems like I still need to get to know the clutch.
Also was doing a little offroading with it so I almost ran into a ditch.

Sounds like you have been re-enacting DERSTUKA's exploits at Hunter Liggett, thankfully we found a handy spares bike to patch up the damage to the VFR... Reggie won't notice.

I think I would rather look at how often it happens.
Hopefully it is less often now then when I was younger.
Maybe once every couple years or so for me.
Not that I have kept a log book or anything.

I'm so stupid, you can add another one to my collection.
Today I slipped and laid the bike down on it's side (where there already was some damage).

    Damage of today:
    - scratched clutch fluid reservoir
    - scratched bar end (and clutch lever)
    - bent footpeg bar (that thing that dangles on the underside)
    - broken gas cap housing

I said I would drop it this time, but I was lucky it's on snow and not on just straight up asphalt.

When it's on the ground, it's a damn heavy bike, I needed 3 people to put it back upright.

You'll never learn when you've never tried it before :)
No, in all seriousness, I thought it was a fun idea to try that. Seems I was wrong.

One of mine was when I suddenly got caught ins really heavy snow wee hours of the morning on the way to work. Forecast was for rain but that changed rather suddenly to heavy huge fluffy snow that accumulated from a wet rainy road, to about3 to 4 inches on the freeway in a distance of about 3 miles. Slipped out from under me as I pulled into a gas bar where I had intended on parking it for the day. Fortunately this place was getting a fuel delivery and the truck driver was really helpful righting the bike.

    Your tally has been remedied.

Meh, the damage is minimal, just a little bit of sanding, painting and it looks just like new. Except the gascap, but I ordered one from AliExpress for like 12$ and can change out the locks myself.

Hey, there is a point, sometimes stupid sh*t can be loads of fun.

But often, it is just stupid sh*t. :homer: D'oh!

My son has been riding his RM250 around in the snowy Michigan U.P. Shared video indicates that he falls down a lot. That bike is pretty well drop-proofed, with guards everywhere. The only thing which seems to take a hit are the bars, so he buys cheap ones and just swaps them out when a set gets tired of the abuse.

Nice that your first thought was to snap a :Photo: of the laydown.

    Just funnin', no abuse intended....

Looking at the video of this drop which you posted on YouTube demonstrates just how suddenly things can go wrong on ice or snow, and also how damned hard these bikes are to pick up especially with a top box (and any contents) adding to the weight you are trying to lift. In those slippery conditions I was very glad to see you stopped trying to lift the bike alone and went and got help - only managing to get the bike upright again once you had help from mum and dad - who deserve a round of applause.

It was rather unfortunate your filler ring mounted tank bag landed on that concrete post. Hopefully the tank itself was not damaged and you can still unfasten and replace the filler cap. If that is your own driveway I would probably plan on removing one or ideally both of those posts in the spring - as I suspect with just a bit more room to work with, the bike may not have gone down?

You now know why many owners choose to invest in crash bungs from the likes of R&G. Whilst crash bungs may not look pretty, they will usually reduce damage sustained in any tip over and importantly by keeping the bike a short distance above the ground, it can reduce the risk of your leg being trapped under the bike and potentially badly injured if a quarter tonne of motorbike lands directly on your leg. I can speak from personal experience bungs work and as the bike remains slightly above the ground it reduces the amount of effort needed to get upright again - meaning usually two people can right the bike. However it is always wise to remove any excess weight (luggage) before attempting to do so.

    Take care ATGATT

@skimad4x4 Thanks for watching the video, I appreciate it :)
It's indeed an unfortunate series of events that broke the tank filler ring.
There is no damage at all on the tank itself, it's mostly the impact that went through my hand and tank box that pushed the ring inwards and broke it off it's mounting points. That's not my driveway, it's a drivethrough, but only for bikes and scooters.

I have some crashbars (for stunting) on the way from Poland, but they are still being made/painted by the manufacturer. They stick out about 10-15cm from the fairings based on the pictures I saw, which means they are stronger and longer than most off the shelf bungs and pads.

The damage on the bike has been fixed by some filing down the clutch reservoir cover and bar-end, and then painting it. Looks almost like new.
I'm all about that ATGATT, I will never ride without my full gear.

I've been lucky, and hesitant to post here because I don't want to invite it by talking about it lol. Only two drops, and both times on someone else's bike.

First time was the very first time on a bike 20 plus years ago (a big dirt bike a noob like me had no business being on), l obviously didn't understand the concept of being smooth with the throttle/clutch...too much and too quick with both and front wheel went up, I fell on my ass and the bike took off without me. It was already beat up so who knows what damage I did to it...besides my bruised butt and ego I was ok.

Second time was my girlfriends bike, apparently the neutral light being on didn't necessarily mean it was in neutral, and also apparently there is no interlock on that bike...I started it on its kickstand and it jumped forward. I grabbed at it and being less than 300 pounds I was able to slow it down enough that the only damage was some rubber off the hand grip and minor scuffs on the swing arm and centre stand. She never noticed, I never mentioned it and the bike has since been sold so no need to bring it up.

Well I have to admit I have dropped 2 bikes in my 34 years of riding...
1st drop was 25+ years ago on a 86 ninja 600. I was enjoying the winding back roads here in maine. I went into a blind right hand corner about 45mph. I saw the sand mid corner but it was too late. When the front tire hit the sand, out it went. The bike low sided and slid across the road onto the shoulder. I was not seriously hurt. Picked the bike back up. Holes in the fairings and rash, Bent lever and brake petal but still ride-able. Oh yeah holes in me too. Blue jeans and dress leather jacket were a bad idea. Rashed my knees, back, left arm,and pinkey finger. My helmet took quite a beating. Those who have experienced road rash know how it sucks bad. I learned to dress better now.

2nd time was over 10 years ago with My beloved VF1000R. It was a parking lot and slow off camber turn. I lost my balance and over she went. Worse part was as I was trying to save it I twisted the throttle on the way down and well you know what happened. Redline. And then everyone within 1/4 mile knew. As for the bike minimal damage. Some scrapes here and there. This is when I learned the VF1000r was a heavy bike. No damage to me. Just my pride.

So after 34 years of riding I feel fortunate to really only have one crash, one drop. RIDE SAFE.

You on board.. You are one up on me. You've dropped two bikes and I have only dropped one.. Mind you, it was dropped 11 times.

It fell over today because I was stupid. I backed it out of the shop because I needed the floor space to make a layout. (I am working on my house and getting it ready to sell.) It has been raining here more than is normal. I put the bike on the side stand and check it to make sure it was not sinking. I didn't check it good enough because about 15 minutes later it was on its side with the peg buried up in the ground. I had to get the wife to help me pull it up being as how it was staked to the ground. No harm done but there is a brief period of panic when you see your "precious" on it side.

Oof, sounds like you need a sidestand puck, hopefully no damage to the bike?

I can add another one to my tally, which makes it 5.
I was making a u-turn a few months ago, and my clutch didn't engage for some kind of stupid reason. That means I haven't had the momentum to keep the bike upright in a corner. Hence: the bike just falls over with me on it.
Luckely my crashbars from Poland are marvelous pieces of engineering, so nothing happened to the bike except for a scratched crash puck.
Needed a little bit of help but being on a steeper angle, the bike went upright without a problem :)
    Anyway here's a pic:
