    Hey Guys,

Been lurking for a couple weeks to gain info but this is my first post.

Looking at a 1985 VF500F locally. The bike has been gone over and basically has the following:
    New timing chain and guides
    Powder coated frame.
    Rebuilt and repainted engine.
    Rebuilt forks with preload adjusters
    Rebuilt carbs
New front rotors, pads and calipers
    Rebuilt master cylinders
    New chain and sprockets
    New tires
Even the small brackets throughout the frame have been coated.
Honda "new old stock" (NOS) parts used whenever possible.
    Only upgrades:
    Stainless brake lines up front
    K&N air filter
    Fork spring preload adjusters
    Silicon coolant hoses

The bike overall has about 19k miles but the engine is allegedly a newer off the shelf OEM that was stored for many years. Naturally, I have no real way to verify to miles and etc. The panels are ok with no cracks but have been vinyl wrapped along with the gas tank which also has a small dent.

Soooo, whaddaya think??? Price is $1800. I'm more familiar with Harley's/V-twins and understand these engines are a lot more difficult to work on. Mainly looking for support to run away or buy it. I've also been checking out some nice Nighthawk 700 S's for about 1k higher in asking price.

    Thanks!!

A test ride is probably a good start. Hard to say too much from 3 pictures but it's a long way from standard, however it's hard to keep these bikes completely standard these days. Have a really good look inside the petrol tank for corrosion. I can't comment on price but I am sure others will.
If it rides OK and you like it and you are prepared to lavish it with TLC, why not?

Even with all of the work and refurbishing, for that price the body work should be nicer and more original imo.
But providing mechanically it is decent, it's not too far off.

The buyer was up front about the inaccuracies of color and etc. The fuel tank was clean and has not been lined. All in all seemed like a sorted bike.

Take $300 off, for not doing something with the header, consider it a crime and they need to pay the fine. :Mod:

Hi Merc. Always a tough decision when it is an almost 35 year old bike. Parts may be tough to get. However, I will say, I had one and it was a brilliant machine and super fun to ride. It was a new bike though and 1986 was a long time ago.
If you like it take a chance and good luck. I hope it works out.

It's not a "run away" bike or price. Looks like it's been mostly sorted- what's not is for price negotiation talk.

A test ride should tell you if it seems ok. They're nice bikes in general and if you fit it there probably worse ways to spend your money lol

Well lucky for me I just a saw an ad for a similar bike just as close to me so I've got some good choices to make. Between these 2 and the VFR 750/800 I should be good...Just have to make a decision and the fun part is always the hunt.
