On my 1990, the Laser slip-on sounds great at a standstill, but anything above city limits and the sound is replaced by the wind noise in my quite quiet helmet.. I would rather hear the engine sound, than the wind noise at sane cruising speeds. (Below 65mph).

Also it is almost unhearable from inside a car/bus whatever, unless I do a full throttle pass right next to it.

I don't know if removing the rusty collector can, and cobbling together a custom 4-2-1 pipe would enhance the sound, or if it would just decimate the low down torque. Maybe I could just mike the exhaust tip and listen to that from my earphones. :/

Sometimes you can find an Apex carbon fiber system. Apex does not make them for the VFR anymore but I think its the sweetest sounding system.

Mine is a 2006. I cannot speak highly enough of the baffleless Delkevic cans and cat-delete header. Love the mild at idle, the growl on the prowl and the scream at full speed! img_2021_01_10_21_37_51 (1).jpg

I'm definitely a Delkevic fan. Sounds classier. The big open ended one looks real nice and sounds good.

Been through a few Delkevic.. They are definitely worth buying..
But here where I live, Police are after noisy mc’s.

And with the Delkevic’s baffled out with extra dampening, they just don’t say anything..

Recently I found a Micron exhaust, a race canister, but retrofit baffled out, it sounds just right for me..

Deep rumble at idle, growls at high rpm..

    Exhaust sound is always individually

But I think I found my setup for the time..

Also painted my wheels BBS gold

Looks great! While not usually a fan of gold wheels, they look awesome with the green.

I guess I am just old, I used to word for Kawasaki in 1984, but the Japanese spend thousands of hours making the correct exhaust for a bike, both ergonomically and mechanically and people want to pull those off for what, like an extra 5 HP and looking all bad and stuff?

    Yep.

Plus they were made for the Government, not just the bike. They can be VERY heavy, especially on 80's and 90's bikes. A NICE exhaust can let a little soul out without being obnoxious or further damaging the public's perception of motorcycles, and shed quite a few pounds. A couple more horsepower? Great. Sure those extra ponies are probably at the expense of some mid-range where we spend most of the time and where the stock exhaust was designed for. Oh well.

Do the Factories race with stock exhaust in Production classes? Not even in SuperSTOCK.

I'm in the process of choosing a slip-on now. Count me as one of those who said he would NEVER pipe a bike that came with a perfectly good exhaust, I have owned my fair share of bikes - the on;y one without a stock can was a Sprint ST with a factory carbon fiber option. It had a nice sound - nothing spectacular - nice "burble and pop" but nothing I would have paid extra for. But two things are factoring into my decision:

    1) The 8th gen is just SO QUIET. Like... disturbingly quiet. I'm not a "loud pipes save lives" zealot, but my car makes more noise at idle. The stock can is bulbous and heavy compared to other options, and while I'm not expecting to get any meaningful HP gains or weight reductions, any little bit could help (especially weight) at my age :)

    2) This particular motorcycle is as much about the soul as it is the body. I'm not about shredding pavement these days - it's more of a holistic experience. To me, a motorcycle should SOUND the part. It makes me feel just that much better when I'm on the bike, and I don't have to be moving at a significant velocity to enjoy the unique aural symphony that is an 800cc V4. Maybe that's childish and selfish - so be it. It was a childish and selfish purchase to begin with. I didn't solicit input from the family or my neighbors. This was for me. If I think it should sound a certain way, then that's how it will sound. And I don't think it should sound like a blender

Currently looking at Dekevic and Arrow. I need to keep it on a budget. My research is showing that older variants of Delkevic had mixed reviews, but the later reviews are generally very good. Seems to depend on the bike in question. The opinion here seems largely positive, and that carries more weight. For around $300, it's not "throw-away" money but its not "life altering" either. The Arrow seems a little classier: not as loud but perhaps a little "classier", and also more $$$. Hope to have something ordered by the end of the week.
