    Mostly would consider different for no other reason since there are plenty of options/ideas out there to look at. - I'm considering consolidating a few other added on circuits to a fusebox or simular..
    Then again, the under the seat thing has taken its abuse, is super simple, and still works great, really cant complain..

    I might be too late to this but I've just installed a voltmeter that hooks up to an app on my phone ... I haven't had it on long but it seems to work fine. It assumes you have your phone in a spot where you can see it as you ride along, but most people do now. The voltmeter connects directly to the battery so doesn't need to be spliced into any wiring. I guess that means it draws current but I'm assuming it's not so much that it drains the battery so badly I can't start it - and anyway the app will let me know that ahead of time!

    The product is 'Powertech Bluetooth 12V Battery Monitor for Smartphones' (QP 2265) and I bought it from Jaycar electronics in Sydney. I hadn't come across anything like it before, and had always assumed I'd have to hook up an LED or a gauge, which I was dreading because I'm not too handy with a solder... Also I found I couldn't read the LED in daylight, which kind of defeats the point. This app might interest other riders so I thought I'd mention it.

    An old twistgrip rubber makes a simple mount for a circular voltmeter - and there's no need for drilling. Just trim its shape to be a good fit around your chosen mounting-point on the dash with a craft knife, and fix it there with some form of clear sealant; then slide the wires through/beneath the black plastic trim on the fairing. I fitted this one to my 5th gen. eight months ago, and it's been solid. Rubber-mounting means the meter is protected from the vibes, too.

    This is exactly like mine. Wire goes from the battery positive to one pole on 5he switch the other goes to ground , easy. Just remember to switch it off after a ride

    Very neat. I would be surprised though if it doesn't draw more power that a standard LCD voltmeter. How long has it been in place? Any issues? I can see it on eBay for around £25. It say 1mA. How long would it take 1mA to drain a VFR battery??

    No need for a switch. Just connect one lead directly to the negative post of the battery, and the other to a wire which becomes live only when the ignition is turned on. The voltmeter will then awaken and display voltage when the bike is started.

    I still havent done this mod... but I am about to. Can anyone point me to a good (and easy!) place to get to a switched live please?

    One option is to use a fuse tap which plugs in to an existing (switched) fuse. Should be able to pick one up at any auto supply.
