Had an opportunity to speak with an ER nurse this past weekend who also rides motorcycles. Not sure what kind of motorcycle he rides but that does not matter. The discussion turned to helmets and a common complaint about them being loud at highway speeds, and the need to wear ear protection. That hampers those of us who like to ride to tunes or have receiving cell phone calls while riding.

I know, some will answer about the negativity of taking a call, even hands free but I am so over that already. But this guy told us about the helmet he has which he says is carbon fiber and has inflatable devices that surround the ear, while the speaker is attached. There is a finger pump to inflate the cushion. This is supposed to reduce ambient noise by 65% according the manufacturer of the helmet. Even if you do not listen to music, that is a substantial reduction in road and wind noise.

Anyone here have any experience with this helmet? If so, what is your opinion on the capabilities of the lid? What are your likes and dislikes? Would you buy one again and if not, why not?

Many earplugs use a filter to get rid of the wind noise, but you are still able to hear navi, coms and so on..
Invest in some quality ear plugs

I’m being “spammed” by a company called Ear Peace. Perhaps I’ll buy one of theirs...

Currently I’m using the yellow 3M ones, as they are free to take from my workplace

Thanks. I do use ear plugs but the helmet I have (Shoie GT Air) has far too much wind noise to hear the coms at highway speeds. I am looking for anyone who has had experience with this particular helmet.

I had a set of molded ear plugs made without the sound but found they really bothered me. Can't explain why but it is what it was. I was disappointed those did not work out. I am hoping for another comment or two on the actual helmet before I decide if I am going to order one.

try the hearos that I mentioned for under $10 with your current helmet and see if it works. They are cheap enough to give it a shot before you fork over cash for that helmet. I got the ones that rock stars use cause that's how I roll...

I will order up some. (Ahh. ordered). I think your ling was Amazon if my old memory has not gone kaputzkies on me. I am also going to try ordering a set of Sena ear buds for my coms unit and use them instead of the in helmet speakers. They ae cheap too but I have to use Paypal to buy them because of a zip/postal code issue between credit card company and the vendor.

I just hope these do not stick out of the ear too far to be comfortable under a helmet. One of the Google reviews I read, someone cut the first rim of the plug off so they fit deeper into the ear.

Interesting article on helmet noise here: https://advrider.com/windscreens-an...or-noise-and-buffeting-in-motorcycle-helmets/

The short version is that windscreens that push the air up from the body probably make it all worse unless the screen is tall enough to defelct the air right over the helmet. Or go naked, that gives the least buffeting around the helmet.

I too have a GT Air, it's pretty good but not what I'd call quiet, but I always wear custom moulded plugs.

I do wear ear plugs, not custom molded, and if I am city riding or at lower speeds, in and around 80 kmh, I can hear the music through the plugs and can hear my riding friends talk. Anything faster though, and their voices are all garbled. I wished that the custom molded ones felt good to me. I was prepared to pay to have a set made with earphones built in but I really did not like them.

Maybe they weren't made properly. My custom moulded fit great can wear them all day no probs.

Taking 10cm off the std screen made a massive difference as well.

The handle does stick out a little far for use in moto I think. After some time has passed I notice they get uncomfortable. I have thought of trimming it, but have yet to do so.

I do have a Puig double bubble on mine already. Thing is, there is an opening at the lower end of the windshield that directs air right up and into your face, and therefore up the underside of the helmet. If that is closed off, then in in climate weather, my visor tends to fog up, even wearing pin lock visor sheets.

S Plugs. Tiny speakers in ear plugs that fit into the ear canal. I plug them into the Sena S20. Not cheap but the clearest set up I have found. Speaker is so close to ear drum that you don't have to over power other noise.

Those look interesting even at that price. I wonder though, do you have your cell paired to this and can you answer calls while riding? Do you have to somehow mount the mic piece or can I use the Sena's mic that I have mounted in my helmet. If you know please.

I have the S PLUG STEREO CANAL EARBUDS (single driver). They are just silicon ear plugs with a tiny speaker inside. I have a wired 3.5 mm mini plug. There is no blue tooth, microphone, etc. My Sena pairs with phone and GPS. The earplugs are clear enough to listen to audio books. Audio is just clearer. YMMV.

I had a Sena SMH10. I sent them the base plate and they added a female mini plug, wired in parallel with the helmet speakers. Since then I bought a Sena 20S, which includes a built in female mini plug. The 20S also has a function that allows you to select a built in external mic.

The best thing I have discovered is the JVC Marshmallow head phones. They wire up to my BT intercom (cheap Amazon one) and connect my phone to the intercom via BT. The intercom has a mic already wired in the helmet. The JVC earbuds are like foam ear plugs with a speaker. They are very loud even at highway speeds. I keep the volume around halfway usually and my helmet fits over them great.

I have been using Earpeace plugs for years, and they seem to make the audio from my Sena speakers clearer. The Earpeace plugs are easy to insert and quite comfortable.

When you say it sounds clearer, is that at highway speeds? Are you speaking of music or conversation?

At any speed, music from the sena speakers sounds tinny and weird when I don’t have the earplugs in. I don’t use the sena much for conversations so I can’t say much about that.
