good advice for any VF owner is to look for a VFR , without all the usual VF :deadhorse: problems, a better bike in every way.

Well, I believe I have the culprit!

Looks like a classic overheating 4 point scuff... That raises the bigger question... Are these cylinders nikasil coated, or can they be re honed?

So the noise was piston slap? Sounds expensive.

    That's what it sounds like.

Anyone know if the cylinders are nikasil'd or plated, or can they just be honed? If they need plated, it's getting a new(used) engine.

They are not Nikasil AFAIK. You can rebore/hone but finding parts won't be easy.

I like the 360 degree feel and love the torque spread of the VF1K. It's also a more striking & distinctive- looking bike to my eye. Over the years, I've had 4 VFs (currently have 2) and 9 VFRs. The VFR is clearly a better bike- but only in most ways :)

PS: and yes, one of them ticks just like sgtmillhouse648's. Been doing it for almost 5,000 miles now, and otherwise runs great.

I've put about 600 miles on in the past week on a few day rides. This from today.
