I have been downsizing my life. I have been having trouble finding the time to ride all my bikes and it got to the point where keeping them all exercised was becoming a chore. I sold the Honda VTR because it was too narrow focus. It was fast and fun but also a magnet for the wrong kind of interaction with local law enforcement. I sold my 2001 Buell M2 Cyclone. It too was fun but Harley-Davidson and I just don't see eye to eye and Harley disavows ever remembering that Buell existed. I sold my Honda CB1000 Big One because it felt top heavy and was kind of vanilla. I even let my Suzuki TL124 and my Honda Z50 go due to lack of use. The one bike that remains? The 2000 Honda, 5th Gen, VFR. I just took it out and I can't ask for a better bike all wrapped up in one yellow package. In typical Marie Kondo fashion I have de-cluttered the bikes and kept the one that brings me the most joy.

Every night , while the wife is watching some crap on the tv, im on ebay looking at all the motorcycles id have in my dream garage when I win the lottery. Moto guzzis, ducatis, m v agustas, RC51,30,45 you get the idea. Then I go out for a ride on my 5th gen and think its so perfect I dont need anything else because I wouldnt ride it.

I understand. It's the biggest reasion I got rid of the Buell. I just didn't ride it. I am old enough to have collected and sold most of the bikes I ever wanted. I still scan the bike listings but mostly it's with an eye to things that I have had or bikes that don't fit my current situation. Like you, I pull the VFR out and marvel at how well it does everything. It's light enough, powerful enough, comfortable enough for a long trip yet fun enough to play when you get there. It looks great for a near 20 year old bike, sounds wonderful and its paid for. Who could ask for more?

By The Way, if I win the lottery I am getting a Vincent Series D Rapide.

It’s definitely hard to beat the VFR for a great all around bike, although I still have three bikes, the two VFRs (01&09) and my Ducati 900SS, most of my time is on the 09, as it’s my commuter. However, when I do get the chance to play, I usually gravitate to the 01. That being said, I can’t bring myself to sell my Duc, as when I do get a chance to ride it, like the 01, I come back with a smile on my face, especially when I get to ride with more modern bikes and able to keep up.

I know how you feel about the Ducati. I had the hardest time letting the Honda VTR1000 go. It was an exceptional bike and one I had a personal connection with since I rebuilt its damaged engine. In live sacrifices must be made to move forward. I am looking forward to the next chapter.
