My torque wrench is old. Like 20 years. I relax the spring every time after use. Should I wory about the right torque? How can I check?
torque wrenches should be calibrated annually. So you have done it like 20 times now right. In reality it is cheaper to buy a new one then have an old one calibrated. Without special equipment you can not check it yourself. Check out harbor freight. They have a nice digital line for little money. Cheaper with a 20% off coupon. Do not buy a cheap cheap torque wrench. I have like 8 and have never had any calibrated. For what its worth
I have never calibrated mine but did read up on it. Seems to me it is a fairly easy process. Why haven't I done mine. Same reason I have not finished the cabinets in my shop.
You could just stick to a bending beam wrench, nothing to go out of whack unless you over-torque it. But the click-type are sooooo convenient.
that was quite interesting, mine is a Norbar and probably 30 years old hardly used and stored with it slackened off so I may have a go at that sometime just to see if it is out spec
I tried this method and it works just fine. My torque wrench was very cheap(14€) and turns out it was only a few grams out of calibration, didn't even had to adjust the spring.
