Just bought an 86 VFR750F last month. It needs carb work and I think this might be beyond my skill level. Can anyone recommend a carb rebuilder? The bike with idle (poorly), but won't take any throttle.

it's seldom easy to remove or install carbs on a V-4, but with patience and simple tools, it's just a simple PIA.

how many mikes on the new bike ??

please PM me for more info.

Bill - a quick question: What possessed you to buy such a beautiful, wonderful machine?

When I bought my first bike back in 86, it was going to be the VFR or GSXR. They wanted $5200 for the VFR and $3800 for the GSXR. That made it an easy choice for a 19 year old but I always wanted the 86. Over the years I've owned a bunch of bikes and decided that I'd see if there was a decent 86 out there for sale. It needs some work but that should make it more satisfying when I get it done.

You will not be disappointed, the 86s have so much soul and character. The sound, feel and power delivery is a very unique combination.

the capt is right. later VFRs lost some of the gritty power of the '86s and became more like flawless appliances or honda civics.

Before getting too bummed out , try resetting your carbs. Very gently turn the primary adjustment screw in until it bottoms out. Did I mention very fucking gently ? Then , after marking the butt end of your driver ( a line ) turn it out 3 and 1/2 turns. Do this at all 4 , might be all it needs to purr again. The screws are springloaded and can slip out of adjustment over time.
If this procedure didn't help , check for airleaks . Rubber bits do wear out.

Yh but the carbs on these things are notorious for clogging. Just the way they are.
