My 5th gen Corbin seat is lower than stock, which makes the bar height easier to deal with, lowers my center of gravity and gets me slightly better wind screen protection.
Mine slips onto the bike with practically zero effort. It has literally slipped out of my hands, into position and locked itself down. The backrest is highly appreciated by my passengers and doubles as a place to hang my trunk bag (which contains a helmet, rain suit, frog togs, gloves, and some extra under layers). It truly transforms the bike into a sport tourer.

My 5th gen Sargent seat seams to sit a bit taller, which gives me more cushion (especially over bumps) and extra leg room (which I really appreciate, with my 36 inch in seem and 2 knee surgeries). The rear pillion is kind of a pain to get on the bike. I'm always afraid I'm gonna crack the plastic side panels. I do like that it is a grippy, zero maintenance, weatherproof synthetic and it is the easiest on my eyes. The red piping is a brilliant accent and the overall profile ads further enhancement. I definitely like the 2 piece design, and I haven't had any complaints from passengers (unlike the stock seat).

At first I got them both, in an attempt to find the one that works best for me. But they have such uniquely individual benefits that I just haven't been able to let go of either. Now that I have a Honda PC800, I barely use the Corbin. But when it's time, there is no substitute. Any other day, it's trimmed down to the Sargent.

Its kind of disappointing that Honda, a company of such notorious quality, cheesed out with a disposable seat on a machine with such otherwise excelllent engineering, materials, fit and finish. The OEM seat made me think that my ZX9 was better for touring. But when the super cheap feeling seat cover started to show it's age, I tried to rebuild it, nicer, sturdier and more comfortable. I succeeded, but still wasn't thrilled. So I finally broke down and once again deeply invested in my ride experience. Man, am I glad I did! After 10 miles on each of the aftermarket seats, I put my ZX9 up for sale and decided that I do in fact have the holy grail, Cadillac of crotch rockets, in my Y2K VFR800 Interceptor.

Hands down, the best thing you can do to any VFR I've owned or ridden, is to do yourself a favor and get whichever one of these seats sounds right for you. Or, better yet, just get one of each!

I'm with Dave on this. My '00 came with both the stock and Sargent seats. I tried the stocker. It lasted about 40 minutes and hasn't been out of the storage box since.
Yeah, the rear portion is slightly fussy to lock into place but nothing troublesome.
I've always been a Corbin guy, had at least a half-dozen of them or more, but I haven't really pursued one for the 5G because this Sargent seems to be doing fine.
But I would like to give a Corbin a try, so don't throw out that Corbin there, I may have a home for it.3
