Greetings! New 2018 gen 8 owner here. Had 2 bikes before I got the gen 5 2001 VFR for 6 years (I still think the gen 5 is the most pretty VFR ever and it’s reliability amazing - nil problem whatsoever !) before stopped biking for 10 years. Moved to NZ from Hing Kong since then and couldn’t resist the temptation when I came across this immaculate 2018 gen 8. Hope to learn and share from you all!
Cant wait to put on more mileage with the bike!

Hi and Welcome to the MadHouse:Welcome:

You are right the 5th Gen have a strong following on here but like too many VFRs it did suffer from the wayward charging system - something they only got around to fixing on the 7th(vfr 1200) and 8th(vfr800f) versions.

Even after a 10 year break it won't take long to get the riding bug, and as it is summer your side of the planet hopefully you will have plenty of opprotunities to take the 8th Gen for totally unplanned trips.

The folks on here really like photos - so if you get a chance please post up a photo or two of your bikes. It is easy just click on the "upload a file" link at the bottom and then follow the prompts to select and upload photos from your computer.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Will definitely post some photos later ( haven’t even got my helmet yet - just borrowed one to take the bike home!)

One thing I do notice though on my 130km ride home is that the riding position is a bit different from the 5 gen - especially the leg feel a bit more clamped. The seat is in the lower position and now I can have both feet flat on the ground (couldn’t on the 5 gen) - but it does feel less comfortable while riding. I’m thinking should I change the seat to high position, but also notice the high position is a bit higher than the 5 gen.

Will have more ride and see ...

    Sweet. Welcome to the World.

Last 8th gen available here in Canada and I believe the USA was the 1015 year. I was faced with mechanical issues with my 06 and saw a 1014 complete with bags and in the colour I wanted. Low mileage considering the bike. I took it out for a good test ride and I also found the ergonomics in the leg area too cramped. Matter of fact, decided I could not ride that bike in comfort for any length of time the way I do with my present bike, giving considerations to my personal health and abilities. I was so disappointed. I was expecting to buy that bike that day and ride it home.

I hope you are able to enjoy that bike. Those are so sweet, I can hear the cavities develop in my teeth just looking at yours.

Was the seat on the low or high position? I have thought the cramped leg position is just due to the lower seat.
I once sat on a gen-6 in the local Honda here and the feel was identical to my old gen-5. The new gen-8 position is a bit less comfy for me but think I can get used to it.

I can't say I know for sure but I believed it to be the higher position. Even so, the difference between the ergos of the 6th gen and the 8th gen is considerable. And as I alluded to, there is abilities O do not possess and that is due to a few injuries sustained many years ago. I was really disappointed not being able to buy that bike but life is what it is, and I decided to spend the money of getting my 6th gen's issue resolved and I will ride that one till it dies. Truthfully, at my age, I think I will die before the bike does.

Are the Knight lowering pegs an option? Most Honda peg mounts are the same.... I'd think they'd fit.

They might. But that ship has sailed now. I got the issue with my 06 resolved and I have fallen in love with it all over again. Prepping it for a ride up to Alaska in June with Reg. The tech at the shop told me the engine runs very well and sees no reason I should not expect another 100K km out of it. It has over 220K km now and I will be dead before I put another 100 on it now
