Hey fellow Viffers! I was thinking of upgrading my horn. The meek beep beep isn’t very loud especially if someone in a cager has their music blaring rap music. Have any of you changed out your horn for something more forceful/louder? Links would be appreciated! Thanks. And yes I’ve done a search but not much on horns.

I bought a Mercedes horn off of eBay. Had to get creative to mount it, but plugged right in, and much louder.

You are better off doing your best to avoid idiot drivers. By time you reach for the horn button, if you haven't taken evasive action, it is probably too late anyway. But really our horns do suck. They will scare away a cat but that's about it. Why the engineers who design these bikes don't come up with a louder or more piercing sound in the first instance is beyond comprehension.

I agree with everything you said, but I’d still like to upgrade it. Not like a Dukes of Hazzard horn (I heard that I’m my head too), more like a Ford F-350 Dually.

    Look up "Screaming Banshee"
It is a kit for an air horn that goes above and beyond.
Installed to my Gen-6 under the left fairing (where the ABS normally goes)
    Extremely loud.
Very compact (and even more compact now than when I bought mine).
    Pulses the air horn.
    Pulses the high beam lights.
Retains the original stock horn for the polite beep-beeps (selectable delay time).
Seller website even had a VFR install video.
    Mounting brackets available.

Scares those cagers right back into their lane!!

most old horns can be improved by spraying the front with penetrating oil and lightly tapping with a hammer. also, the tone can be optimized by carefully re-adjusting the very small screw on the back, no more than a small fraction of a turn.

People in Japan do not use the horn - EVER. It is considered socially unacceptable. They look at a horn as something that checks a US regulation box.

Totally right! Only in America does the horn mean, “Get out of my way!!!”

I agree with a defensive approach like be aware and react before hitting the horn.

I mainly to a quick blast when splitting lanes and either the person is drifting over or I’m coming up on a open spot, you know how people think jocking from lane to lane thinking it will get them there faster.
But I’ll tell ya, the horn and my two high beam yellow LED’s on my 6G made a huge impact on people actually moving over, kind of like parting the Red Sea.
Still always cover my horn and front brake
riding 300 miles commuting for the last 9 1/2 years in LA has taught me always play the guessing game with all these people doin everything but driving.
Now if there little yellow light on the rear view mirror doesn’t go on they don’t bother checking if it’s clear.
Sorry if I went sideways on this

I don't really use my horn. But if I had to upgrade it, I quite like the Hella ones. Mainly the "Super Tone" and "Sharp Tone" models.

One thing to keep in mind is, that when upgrading your horn, you should really consider throwing a proper relay in there. Especially if you go for any kind of air/compressor type.

I believe, some places, just being on the road is a contributing factor to road rage.
