Anyone have luck replacing all of their body/fairing bolts with a kit like those on Ebay? I need a couple of those rubber spring locks, all nylon washers, a couple plastic push locks and really just want to change all the stainless allens to black. Most kits I see are "generic". Looking for input to see what any of you have used and recommendations. Pic for reference:

I haven't used any kits... note some are aluminum. By rubber spring locks, do you mean rubber well-nuts that expand as you tighten... I usually can find metric ones at Lowes or Home Depot or Ace Hardware. Plastic push pins (not the originals) with a center pin you push in to release are easier than the ones you have to pry out. Yamaha FJR side panels use a plastic screw type that is only 1/4 turn to release with a JIS or Phillips. I haven't bothered to change the OEM fairing screws to any other colour, not sure how black would look on my yellow beast.

Yes, rubber well-nuts (threaded rubber bungs, thingamajigs, whatchamacallits .....) LOL

Thought about hunting down bits and pieces at my local Ace where I live most every weekend. But the kits are too expensive and seem all inclusive. However, most are generic in that they say they fit multiple bikes even though the title may state for VFR. Makes me skittish.

The well-nuts are pretty universal... 5 mm thread and fit into a certain size hole (that I'm too lazy to go out and measure... 10mm??). The other hardware is usually 6mm, but some are 5mm.... again perty standard stuff. Lengths another matter, you can cut them off....

    Search for wellnut c-550

You’ll find lots of places for them. I just bought a box for longevity.

I just purchased this kit off Amazon for my 02. I bought the bike and most of the hardware was either missing or home depot generic replacements. Well nuts were worn and broke and the push pins were just the retainers, no actual pin. Every bump created a box of rocks sound since probably 60% of the hardware was missing.

The kit came with 4 labeled bags and directions with pictures for each piece and where it was used. I have to say for the price it all fit rather well and got everything bolted or pinned back together like it was supposed to be. And bonus that it was Amazon prime next day delivery. I buy hardware that doesn't incorporate plastic sleeves, they can be a pain, and it just adds another piece to the fastener that has to be dealt with, as well as, being susceptible to getting crushed and wearing out. It's worth it to me to not be fussing around. To each his own.

Don't get aluminum bolt kits, you will be digging bits out when they break. Stainless is the only way to... Unless you can afford titanium EVERYTHING like some others! ;)
