I carry a small firearm concealed on me everywhere I go (legally of course). I've had a few over the years, and my latest are a Ruger LC9s, and LCP as a backup depending on areas I plan to be in. However, getting your trigger finger into either of these is cumbersome with riding gloves. I've practiced with them, but it's just time for a change. I would like to ask those who carry while riding what your preference in firearm is with regard to make/models that have larger trigger guards suitable for gloves.

Interesting question. I carry occasionally but it never occurred to me that I might need to draw my weapon with gloves on. I'm not even sure I could get the gun out of my pocket with a glove on, let alone shoot it.

One would hope that it would not have to happen. But protecting your life comes down to milliseconds, and I've actually practiced removing my glove and drawing, but that removal time could be precious. I have a pair of tactical gloves, but they are extremely light duty and I wouldn't wear them as protective riding gear. I thought I'd throw the question out here to the group for opinions/experience.

For the record, I've had to draw my pistol while in my car. Many years ago when my son was 8 years old an aggressive driver for some unknown reason decided to attempt to run me off the highway by side swiping. He came up behind me fast, and then to my driver side and just drove into me! I slowed, but so did he and he continued to "try" to hit me again and again. Believe me, he seemed under the influence of something, and was determined to, in my opinion, kill us. This was before I had a concealed permit and I kept my pistol in the center console and and the magazine in my glove box. Florida rules sucked. But I never considered I might have to use it while driving. My son having grown up around weapons at my command reached into the glove box for the mag while I retrieved the pistol (good boy!). I loaded it and took two shots out my driver window striking the other driver's passenger front fender and I think door. He backed off immediately as I pulled away fast. That was that. No need to hang around. I got the hell out of there and protected my son (.) We also got our story straight in the event the police showed up at the house.

Now, another thought to ponder is having to draw WHILE RIDING, just considering that previous situation. I'm naturally a righty, but have gradually got my ambidextrous coordination zero'd in to where I can carry on my left while on the bike. God forbid you'll ever need to draw while riding, but carrying on the throttle side would not be wise, unless you cross-draw. Lots of details can be discussed here.

Not tough. Just a life experience that no one should have to go through. Back on topic please.

Glad you brought this up especially wearing gloves.
Moving out to my retirement home in CO I’m DEFINITELY getting a carry license for my Bursa 380.
Think I’ll have to try my summer gloves with my gun.
Noticed people out here are less aggressive then what I’m used to in LA riding 6 frwys a day and 300 miles a week.
Don’t really ever run errands on my bike so would like to figure a good mount that I can reach fast on my 6G instead for unzipping the inside pocket of my jacket to grab it.
    Food for thought
    Thanks

    A few pesos:

Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.
The thing that best stops a BG with a gun is a GG with a gun.
A firearm is the great equalizer and it's easier to carry a gun than a cop.

Doable with a Beretta and S&W 2" with a couple of different gloves but definitely not as smooth/slick as bare handed. I think HK trigger guard openings are on the generous side but probably best to actually bring your gloves into a B&M shop and handle different guns.

Exposed carry would be most expedient but not always secure, safe, and/or legal. I've done shoulder holster, front pocket, cross draw, and strong side carries and IME none of them are easily accessible when you're wearing protective gear (usually, the more protective, the more difficult the access). I think maybe a chest/sternum kydex rig might be a decent compromise - would only have to zip a jacket halfway down the front to access...

Thanks for the in-depth reply Samuel. Open carry isn't (yet) an option in Florida. I do like the chest holster option under the jacket; good thought. I do need more time at the range with these Rugers and my gloves, but it would seem a balance between the thickness of the glove fingers and whatever pistol's trigger guard is needed.

We would thank you for using one on a Noo York politician. Not going to happen though because they have all their citizens fooled.

My personal carry is a HK P2000 subCompact .40 and I've sent many a shot downrange in riding gloves. The trigger guard is very generous in space and allows for my summer gloves all the way to my Alpine stars full gauntlet gloves I use at the track.

When riding in textile jackets and I intend to carry I wear an Advanced Performance SOB left hand draw holster. It's more on the outer part of the small of your back and is designed for "quick draw" as stated by the company. Its location makes it hard to wear with more form fitted leather riding jackets. For that setup I normally wear a shoulder rig.

Having recently moved to Arizona which is an open carry state I'm looking in to other options. Having had my CCW for most of my adult life I'm still not prone to open carry. Just feel it invites trouble. So I'm always on the lookout for a comfortable concealed that works while riding

It's legal to open carry in my state without a permit but I don't......ever. If something happens, you're the first one to go. I CC 99% of the time with a permit (isn't that law ironic?), but seldom while on my VFR. Why? If I get in a bike wreck it will be bad most likely and I don't want to be concerned about tracking down a gun, if I live, Just a little weird thing about me among the long list of other things weird about me. No problem, I admit it.

When I CC, it's either a Sig Sauer P938 SAS, a S&W model 37, Ruger SP101, a Security Six, or a NAA .22 magnum if small is in order. I know, Canadians, and just about every other country think we're crazy about guns......BUT......look at how our country was founded, defended, and our history in general and it's easy to understand why we're well armed. Just the way it is. We don't mess with each other in the part of the country where I live. Being nice is a great way to be. ; ). I've even come to realize fink is a nice guy! Sorry for the dissertation. Oh, the price of ammo is at a 12 year low right now. Get another thousand rounds while it's cheap......

Seems like a great idea except for bystanders seeing you unholster from the mount and holster on your person.

G26 appendix carry believe it or not. It's not bad until you hit about hour 4. Now, being able to draw right handed is likely not going to be ideal.... I am left handed but shoot and do most things besides throw and write with my right hand.

The only time I don't carry is when I'm on my way to work out. No place on the bike to secure it and it's a bitch trying to run with a side arm anywhere on your waist.

    I have a buddy who runs with a chest rig - https://hillpeoplegear.com/Products/CategoryID/1
I know another guy who claims he used to run with his 2" held in his hand and everything covered by a sock... lol
(both the above for street running, not gym/treadmill running)
