I have an opportunity to buy a Zumo 660 for $100 Canadian... Is it worth it?

The 660 is 2006 or 2007 vintage. It did not come with free updates. So, unless the owner had bought an update package, it is going to be seriously out of date map wise. I am not saying that makes the GPS worth less, just be aware of that.

I got mine somewhere around 2007 or 2008. It has been ridden tens of thousands of KM in the winter rains of the Wet Coast. It is in fact very water proof. I dropped mine when it was fairly new and cracked the casing in one corner. I tried to get it fixed, but the unit is obsolete now and the casing cannot be replaced. It has been that way since around 2010 or so. I just put a small piece of, you guessed it, duck tape on the corner with the crack and it still remains weather proof.

The quality of the music from the unit is not very good at all. Then again, I don't use it for that purpose as I have blue tooth capabilities through my Sena Headset and cell phone. You can Bluetooth the audio from the Garmin though your helmet coms even if you have your phone also connected through the coms. I do remember making a cell phone call using the on screen dial but don't remember how well that worked. I did not use my cell with the Garmin, but not because of the Garmin, but because of the very poor helmet coms I had at that time.

The touch pad works very well. I can use the touch pad not only with my summer leather gloves, but also with my winter weather proof gortex gloves which have quite the tick insulation compared to the summer gloves. The screen is easy to read even for old fukkers like myself. The night time lighting is pretty good on it as well.

It was very expensive new, but I have to say, I like it and it still works very well for me. I rode tear round with my bike commuting from Chilliwack to the Vancouver area every day in our God forsaken wet winters here and the unit worked great, never having had an issue with it. I have probably ridden close to 200,000 km with that on the bike all the time, and still use it. So long as the mounting connections and such also is included, and it works, I think that is not bad of a price, but I would think you should be able to get him/her down from that a bit more.

You can purchase lifetime updates for that unit which is worth every penny if you tour as much as I do. I love mine. I am not interested at all in replacing it. Very tough unit.

I was thinking of having it for a backup to my smartphone. I was wondering how it would work with my Cardo Freecom 4+ and phone. I was unable to find the price for lifetime maps. I may planning a trip from Timmins,ON to various points in Saskatchewan.

You should be able to get a lifetime update link from here. But you will have to pay for it.

You also should not have any problems pairing your phone with the Garmin. I still have my owner manual for mine. Matter of fact, I think I have it saved in PDF on one of my other computers. I cansent that to you if you decide to purchase this. Does it come with the mounting bracket. I tink once you have used it, you will favour the Garmin to your phone for GPS purposes.

I have mine mounted on the left handlebar because I used to, and still sometimes still, use a fairly high expandable tank bag which would block sight of the unit if I were to mount it on the centre of the handlebars where most mount their GPS.

Thanks Randy. Providing it is in good working order it might be just the thing I am looking for.

Looks like the unit I'm talking about isn't the LM model and updated maps will cost about $100.
