I have noticed that when I am in gear, and I pull the clutch in, I can hear a whining noise, basically sounds like engine braking but quieter. I assume this is my clutch "dragging". If I switch to Neutral the noise goes away, switching back to gear, it comes back, this is even with the clutch pulled in. The bike has 35k or so miles. Original clutch. Two previous owners, I have no idea how it was treated by them. Anything I should do to remedy this? I realize we have a "wet" clutch, and that some "viscous drag" is normal when the clutch is cold. I have seen this after I have been riding around though, so I am concerned. I am going to check my rotors and brake rub on the center stand to rule that out. Assuming it is indeed clutch, I guess I should look to replace it?
I would try a good hydraulic bleed first. Won't hurt any. If you open the oil filler BIKE OFF and squeeze the clutch lever, you should be able to see the plates separate. Replace cap Place bike on centerstand. Place trans in neutral. Start engine. Squeeze clutch lever and select first gear. Do not release the clutch lever. does the rear wheel spin? It should move slightly if oil is cold, then stop. If it keeps spinning you should check out your clutch hydraulics Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
It passes this test. I do see separation on the plates thru the filler cap, its tight, but they move. With clutch held in on 1st, the rear tire does not move. I brought the bike up to temp first to smooth out the oil. I noticed the rubber chain scrubber has separated from its bolt (dry rot?), and is literally dragging on the chain.........sounds like a place I may be picking up the "noise", so I'll address that.
