With a 6' 3" height and a sleeve length of 37", I needed mirror extenders to be able to see behind me. Well, I decided more is better and installed both the (1) SW-MOTECH extenders and the (2) mirror base spacers from Burkhart Cycle. Now I can clearly see around my arms and everything behind me. In addition to to being positioned outboard, they're also a little higher than stock.

    SW-MOTECH, $71.50, SW-MOTECH mirror wideners (Honda CBR600F4i, '99- / CBR900RR,'98- / RVT1000 / VFR800 / VTR1000) - SVL.01.500.100 : TwistedThrottle.com

    Burkhart Cycle, $23.00, Honda VFR800 1 mirror spacers, extenders 2000-2001 - $23.00 : burkhartcycle.com, Motorcycle Parts and Accessories

Has anyone tried using 2002 factory mirrors? They sit higher up and in a different position, the bolt pattern for the mirror appear to be the same as the 98-01

I have the condom mirrors on my 99, in very good condition, thinking of adding extenders, should I change for the newer type mirror and extenders now? there are extenders available for the condom mirrors,
just not sure if I should bite the bullet and upgrade all round.

I had that same type of design on a 6g. I copied the shape of the bottom of the mount and drew a cad file. Made them 30mm thick and had them cnc'd out of aluminum, then powdercoated them the same color as the fairing. The program removed a lot of the excess material on the inside and they ended up super light and I attached them with ti tapered socket head bolts. It turned out decent and I liked the way the color made them blend as part of the fairing. The mirrors almost looked like they were floating off the fairing from a distance.

The later style mirrors would be a good update, I just don't have any experience mounting them on a 5g.
