It rides fine either way for me but in the upper position she rides like my old 83 V45 and I like that. The high position makes it easier to slide around while making the bike more responsive in the curves. The low position makes the bike feel like its less agile, you have less leverage swinging the bike around. The lower position also lets my knee hit the T Rex sliders and that hurts some times. I was forced to ride in the lower position for a few months after tearing my S-1 disk in my lower back . that kept me off the bike for months...grrrrr!! When I went back to the raised position I could see and feel the change.

I went for the first few months in the high position, then a couple months in the low, just to see how it is. Went back to the high...didn't like the tight bend of the knees in the low, and found no advantages.

Don´t know as I didn´t buy it brand new, maybe in the upper position. I use it in the lower position because it fells better for long travels!

Stock from the factory is upper position. If the clear protective strip at the bottom of the fuel tank is exposed, it's in the lower position. If it's covered by the front of the seat, it's in the upper position.

I agree, Also had more pain in my knees. I wanted low due to a 29" inseam but figured out that once riding high was a much better option especially with the 1-1/2 inch bar risers for me.

How do we know which is the "factory setting"? The bike is shipped high so that the risers in the front domt have to be shipped loose with the bike. It's bad enough some never got the cowl, can you imagine them forgetting to send the risers that go under the front of the saddle.

Alan553, there is not a separate riser for the seat. The bracket has two mounting positions. You just need to look at the manual to see how to reset the seat to the lower position. As far as Honda, they ship the seat cowl to the dealer with the bike.

It is the dealers fault for not giving it to some of us at purchase! Some dealers may have less morals than others and my keep it to sell. I don't know. Maybe they just forget because most of the bikes sat for 1-2 years before being discounted and had the cowl in the parts room for that long and forgotten. Maybe salespeople did not know about the cowl. I know that as a buyer I would have thought the cowl was a purchased option if not for this community. It was kinda cool thing that Honda threw that in with this model and did not ask for more money for it. Though at the retail price of $12,999 for the F and $13,500 for the Deluxe for a 800cc Honda V4 in 2014 they should have thrown in the saddle bags in my opinion. I am happy as shit that I bought a new F off the floor with 2.5 miles for $7,999 this year.

Thanks for that info, I know how to adjust the seat up or down.
I'm talking about the spacers in the front of the saddle. If the bike wasn't shipped with them installed how many dealers would forget to hand them over if they were shipped loose.

There *is* risers for the seat. Page 92 of the manual. There is a bracket with two mounting positions......True. But in the lower position you remove the two risers at the forward portion of the seat.
