Hi ive an 86 vf500 interceptor and having fuel flow problems. May sound a mad question but i recently checked the petcock and the rubber O ring was totally screwed. Would this being faulty cause the fuel to not flow to carbs,as there cant be any vacuum if its leaking? I know this may seem a mad question but just trying to eliminate problems as i try to give the bike makeover

If it is a vacuum fuel tap you can test it by sucking on the vacuum line and seeing if the fuel flows. Have you tried running it with the fuel cap open the eliminate the possibility of a blocked breather.

What he said. Or, a clogged petcock straw. Or, dead fuel pump. Basically anything is fair game to be checked as there are many causes. I would pull the petcock and inspect, you could quite possibly need to rebuild it. While you are at it, might as well put an inline fuel filter in the line.

No fuel-pump on ‘86 model like used on ‘84-85 ones. Gravity-fed only.

Also hose-sizes are specified for ID of hose. That matches up to OD of port/pipe that hoses slips over. A 7mm ID hose can have 9 or 11 or 15mm OD. Pretty much doesn't matter WHAT OD is, they ALL fit onto 7mm fitting.

You're barking up wrong tree, do petcock flow test. If petrol doesn't flow out of petcock when vacuum is applied, doesn't matter one bit what size hose you've got connected.
