What's up guys, Im new to the VFR game just picked up a 98 800, I am sure tbhis has been covered a million times over. But my bike wont charge, I tested continuity in the stator and that seems to be working and also the rectifier regulator. The guy I bought it from was in there monkeying around and said he replaced 2 of 3 coils in the stator and put in a new rectifier regulator, I can tell he has been in there because he deleted all the clipa and hardwired everything together. I was wondering if you guys could point me in the right direction as to where to buy a stator & RR combo deal so I can undo this guys cobb job and start fresh. Basically looking for proper parts on a legitimate market so I dont get ripped off, who do I need to contact? also can anyone give me insight on the impulse generator?

He’s the man that you need to talk to if he installed a cheap RR.

testing continuity of stator coils isn't the best test; instead, test AC voltage output (with engine running) across all 3 combinations of yellow wires. you should have about 8-10 volts at idle and about 55-65 at 5000 rpm.

You are probably number 2794 on the screwed up 5th gen charging system. Sounds like the previous owner just went cheap and bandaided it together for sale.
For R/R parts.... as duccman point out --- definitely --- www.roadstercycle.com --- The FH020aa is closest to stock size and will fit easy. The SH847 is much larger, and will be a challenge to mount, but its been done.
Stator - Seems that OEM is no longer available... but --looks like ProCaliber is selling one... I would call first to verify... -- It could be on back order.. forever..

    https://www.procaliber.com/oem-parts?aribrand=HOM&arian=MOTORCYCLE#/Honda_Powersports/VFR800FIA_(99)_INTERCEPTOR,_JPN,_VIN#_JH2RC460-XM100001/ALTERNATOR/15f922e6-6adf-4b94-b64d-cb9c2c286344/a55817ce-f606-49ae-bae3-15feda93b909/y

Another alternate is for a rewind job... Custom Rewind. Unfortunately, the owner has MS. Gary (I believe) goes by phone call, and you need to be patient to talk with him, I heard his speech is labored. I have heard on the forums he does an excellent job.

If you go the rewind route, ask for extra long leads on the stator output wires, maybe plus 30 inches. This way you can add the R/R connectors direct to the stator without an intermediate connection, solder or other wise.

For 5th gen, it will look like.... The R/R is the FH020AA

And... the usual post on charging system testing... "The Drill" --- Post #9 - do it.
    https://vfrworld.com/threads/how-to-fix-common-regulator-stator-failures.39277/

And... before Squirrelman jumps in, check your starter relay wires that are in front of the battery, those tend to be melty too...maybe need a fix...

That's enuff to keep you hopping for awhile.... :bruce2:
