Photos show what a super magnet will remove from engine oil in approximately 5000 K (3125 miles)
Magnet is epoxied to stock drain plug.
I just feel better knowing this is not circulating in the engine.
Gen 6 with approximately 42,000 Km on the clock
The filter may catch it eventually ,but who knows ? 20200924_155347.jpg 20200924_155243.jpg

I have one on my 83, which put in just before the last oil change. I haven’t put very miles on it since, so I haven’t checked it yet. Remember many parts are aluminum and not magnetic.

Bear in mind that the oil passes from the sump where that plug lives through the strainer (to keep the big stuff out of the pump) to the pump out to the oil cooler, then back to the pump then through the filter and on to the bearings etc. So that drain plug is exposed to the worst, while the feed to the engine is well-filtered and cooled some. The filter will catch anything that is floating around in the oil, anything big/heavy is more likely to remain in the sump until the next oil change.

I glue a small niobium magnet to the end of the oil filter canister, break it off and put it on the next one at the next oil change
