I didn't say "there never was social justice". That's not even close to what I said.

    What I said was this:
There is no such thing as "Social Justice" in the modern world. And there never has been. There is absolutely no evidence (throughout the entire 5,000 year long record of "written human history") of any civilization (current or prior) ever achieving anything close to "Social Justice"

The actual truth of Human History is that we lived as Hunter-Gatherers in small groups for hundreds of thousands of years. We actually spent 99% of our time here on Earth in this small-group societal setting.

In this discussion here on the VFRWorld forum I intentionally made a point of carefully defining what part of Human History I was talking about: the part of Human History that has occurred since the advent of CIVILIZATIONS.

    But...

There's a lot to be learned from understanding that Human History is a hell of a lot longer than just the last 5,000 (or so) years.

It's obvious that you, cat0020, are a person who feels very strongly about how people are treated in our society.

I understand how you feel. I too dislike the situation we (humanity) are dealing with (gigantic civilizations with enormous opaque hierarchies of power administrated by cruel, impersonal, impenetrable layers of bureaucracy).

But, as a concerned and caring conservative thinker, I also understand that liberal types often choose to believe that because I'm conservative I don't care about people.

So yeah, we (humanity) spent a really, really long time living in small groups. In a small group everyone knows everyone, there's accountability, there's transparency. Under those conditions there can be something like "Social Justice".

This is where you get your natural, instinctive desire for "Social Justice". It's feels right because that's what humanity had for most of its history.

But throughout the entire period of modern civilizations nothing like that has been possible. Just look at all the modern era (last 5,000 years) dictatorships, tyrannies, cruel monarchies, etc.

The last 5,000 years (the period for which we have actual written history as evidence) shows that the best you can do is establish something like the United States (a flawed system with no better alternative).

Yes, our Constitutional Federal Republic isn't perfect, but in a horrifically imperfect world situation there is no better alternative. Maybe we should spend more time protecting and nurturing this unique system and less time trying to destroy it.

IDK. I am quite happy living where I do and think we have a pretty good way of life here. Wouldn't mind a little less water falling from the skies though in the winter time locally. Maybe cheaper beer too, like you guys have I guess.

You got me on that point but I stand by what I said. We have a decent place to live. I am sure if I wanted to move to the USA I wouldn't have any problem getting in. I have several good friends down there, and do spend a fair amount of my vacationing time RVing down there, but I think Canada is the best country I personally have been to to live. But I guess I am partial to Canada seeing as I was born here. Bet you are too. Of course that is if you are American born . I wouldn't know about that.

I appreciate the O Canada! thing. Lived in Spokane for 20 years, we used to sing "Spokanada! Our home and native land!"

But this isn't what I was talking about.

Can I live a fun and happy life under the current conditions here in the good old U.S. of A.? Damn skippy I can.

I've been flying airplanes for a living since 1989. I got to rocket around supersonic on afterburners while still young and dumb (in my twenties). It's been great, I'm a fossil fuel eradication specialist, an arial heavy machinery operator, spent a lot of time hanging out with a bunch of smart-asses in flight suits. I've been around the world on jet fuel, seen the four corners of the map.

Yeah, I can (individually) enjoy the wonders of this modern era.

    The conversation wasn't about that.

I don't need to think of anyone else.

Those who have problems that can't get by on their own is their problem.

Those who can't help themselves don't deserve any help from me.

As long as my world is insulated from all the ugly facts in the world; everything is just someone else's problem.

I don't need to learn or understand other people's situations because they are not my problem.

I don't need to participate in political process because one vote is not going to make any difference anyway.

Privilege is when you think something is not a problem because it's not a problem to you personally.

When in actuality, it may be a big problem for others.

    Are you preaching?

If you're preaching, who do you think you're preaching to?

nice. so you're all holier-than-thou, are you?

are you one of those people who believes they have some sort of special exemption from feeling any guilt and/or culpability in the creation of our modern-world shit-storm? this self-absolution allows you to stand in judgement of others?

my guess is you're just another asshole (like all the rest of us).

(I got a perfect example of this sort of thinking this week on Facebook: A fraternity brother from my college days (many years ago) is a gay man and it's pretty obvious, based on his words and actions, that he's certain his gay man status raises him above all reproach no matter what he does in life. In the last week he posted about his recent Bermuda island vacation, then he posted pictures of workers hauling his rather large and expesive boat out of the water to put it into overwinter dry storage, his profession is corporate banking and acquisitions, and he lives out in Connecticut in a large house on lakeside property with a gate around it and a pool. But after posting about all of those things he recently changed his status pic from "Black Lives Matter" to "Black Lives Still Matter" because he's feelin' cute and is down for the struggle, because, you know, it's real.)

I didn't specify you, but if you feel that you need to justify your comments, than I guess are out-of-touch with reality.

Go volunteer at your local homeless shelter or hospital for a few shifts, talk to folks while you volunteer; get some idea what reality is like.

BTW calling me names, insulting me doesn't make your argument any more valid.

It's Thanksgiving, government goes on recess with millions Americans relying on food banks in a global pandemic,
and GOP has chosen a boy charged with murders to be held as hero among them.
    America is broken.

Wow, I’ve missed a lot.

Keep up the good work Greg, I have no energy for this shit. nothing can be said which will convince cat that the issues at hand aren’t more complex than he’s willing to accept.

What specific issues are more complex than current global pandemic and social injustice impact on on society?

No energy for this shit? seems to me that anyone would make energy if the issues actually affect your life, your family.

Seems like it's harder to move up there? We've visited the Vancouver area before and it seems like a nice place to retire to... ?
