Good evening All, I will be checking out a 1st gen interceptor over the weekend. Any specific thing i need to watch out for that are related to this bike? I have added a picture of the bike concerning for reference. Does anyone know if the color scheme is genuine? I find the colors on the upper fairing a bit off in regards to the rest of the bike. Is the exhaust also original it thought is should be longer. If someone would see something strange with the bike at first sight i would appreciate to know thanks!
Hi and welcome, Stripes on the upper fairing dont look Original, Exhaust silencers are not original either. I believe the 1st gen 750's are the ones with the top end oiling issues, ie they didnt get enough oil and the Cam Shafts got prematurely worn, hence the moniker of having "chocolate cam shafts". Im not an expert on the aftermarket top end oiling kits, but someone here may chime in on how to identify if it has been retrofitted. you may be taking a risk if you cant see the Cam's before you buy it. You'd want to ride it, make sure 2nd gear is working ok under load. Personally I'd avoid 1st gen 750's unless the price was so good I just cant refuse (ie under 500 Euro), and I was willing to roll the dice. But thats just me, others here may have a different view on the value vs risk. Others will chime in on parts availability too.
Someone has added red to the upper cowl. Mufflers are not original. They remind me of the Bassani reverse megaphone mufflers. In a prefect world you would be able to inspect the cams and followers, which is a known problem on these. The rest of the bike looks pretty stock. Buyer beware on a VF750F.
