Hi all On my vf1000f2 I have a problem from really cold starts in other words not been started for a few days It fires on 1 cylinder, then another one will join the party, all this time the rev counter is not working, the engine will continue to splutter along after about 90 seconds or so the last two cylinders join in as the rev counter comes to life I have changed the CDI unit, cleaned all the coil connections, new HT leads and caps, checked the pulse sensors, in range, After this odd start it won’t do it again till I leave it for a few days The last two cylinders and the rev counter are definitely linked Anyone got any ideas as what I can check out VF1000F2 a work in progress
The F2 has one CDI unit, I have two of the units one came off my parts bike which I’m sure is an F They both behave exactly the same VF1000F2F, in bits
Check for bad coils, similar gets when coil is shorting circuit. Best to check with scope. Had similar
You should try doing that after-several-days-of-sitting cold start with an auxiliary source of 12 volt power hooked up to the bike's electrical system. Use a car battery (not a running car, that's too much). If the bike starts right up your problem isn't ignition, it's battery.
Yes, good to check if voltage on running bike is ok, cheap test-when RR(rec/reg) is dead, and regulates voltage at too low level, or it "thinks" that it's ok, you can xatsh similar issue. To check that, disconnect RR connector for short period, if bike wakes up as soon you disconnect RR, then check ground and power to RR, if good, replace RR. They do that sometimes. If that's the case, not shorting coils(on oscilloscope you can see low voltage output, and if using amp clamp, you can see unusual charge pattern) then RR can fry up, because of too "powerful" bettery, it just could not short circuit car battery and stay alive. Newer disconnect RR for too long, it can fry stator windings
Thanks guys I have a voltmeter connected to the bike, 12.6v at start 14.3v at 3000 rpm I have 2 R/R units tried them both, I have changed the stator connectors for 45amp Anderson connectors I will check the battery and ground connections I don’t own an oscilloscope or an amp clamp But I will try the rest of the suggestions VF1000F2F, in bits
