Just realised I never properly introduced myself or bike.

So I'm based in N.Ireland a 30 second ride from my door and I'm on Glens of Antrim route which is the best scenic route to work I can think of.

My VFR is a 99 Belgium import, I got her 2 years ago as my first bike after passing my licence. She had 19k miles on her (now 26k miles) and was fairly fresh from the previous owner applying a lovely new colour scheme.

When I got her she'd not been used properly for a while so I had a wee service done and had to have a slightly sticky throttle fixed, new coolant and a new thermostat done in the first month of having her.

The exhaust is Simmi (No I'd not heard of them either) was was shortend by the previous owner. It sounds amazing, but is also a loud at times lol. A high level black widow is on my list of things to replace it with.

I've stopped with a RR stator issue in the 2 years of owning it (which made me switch dealer because the local Honda dealer killed my battery and didn't pick up the issue before stranding me in Belfast at 9pm at night). They also didn't bolt my rear seat cowl on after "checking my charging system" so that the rear cowl flew off somewhere on the motorway never to be seen again (I've got another one that is waiting to be painted which I might give a go myself).

I've had no luck at all over the past year, the bike is fine but both times I've sent it to my new mechanic we've been put into lockdown my bikes been trapped lol. But he's currently fitting some heated grips, a voltmeters/ampmeter and a 12v socket then I'll have it back.

    Hi Neill

Nice photos - Wow that looks a very special colour scheme. I think there is a Panigale and a BMW race bike with a similar livery but I have never seen it on a VFR - really suits it. Hopefully you can still colour match the missing seat cowl to complete the look.

The great electrical gremlins saga appears on here as regular as clockwork every spring. Hopefully the folks at your new garage have done their research and know the main thing to change is the RR - dump the Honda POS and fit a modern shindengen RR and hopefully the rest of the charging system (loom, battery and stator) should have an easier and longer life.

Fingers crossed it won't be too long before the vaccination program stops this dratted virus spreading and the UK can get back to life and look forward to TT 2022.

Yes she's got a new RR, Stator and Battery. Loom is the same but the mechanic has a good knowledge of Honda's from the era, he's confident the loom is grand.

Colour matching won't be tricky, the previous owner was able to give me all the paint codes as he did it himself so that's the easy part.

Still have to make my way to a TT but 2022 would be a good one to start. NW200 and the Ulster are my main stays but I haven't been since 2019.

    Neill,

Fantastic color scheme, love the old school Gulf markings. Very nice bike.

You came around about 6 year too late. There used to be an annual great together not far from you in Atascadero that had gone on for about 10 or so years. It was a real hoot for sure. I managed to make it down there four times. It even attracted a visit from overseas as well. Unfortunately that BBQ came to an end. Most definitely missed though.
