Hi! I’m new to the group. I own a ‘98 VFR800. I recently acquired a Corbin smuggler off a yellow bike. Problem is, mine is red. We are going to repaint it but are having a heck of a time getting paint. We have everything needed for the axalta single stage paint system, apart from the colour. We did take my rear cowl in to have the paint scanned, but after 4 coats it doesn’t match at all. I’ve called Honda, they won’t give out their paint formula anymore, I was wondering if anyone happens to have the formula? Colour code on the bike is R157.
According to ColorRite.com Honda's R157 had slight variants in shades over the years. They are a bit pricey, but if your local auto paint supplier can't get it close with their scanner, ColorRite may be helpful. I used a local auto parts store that is a Axalta dealer, and they recommended a two part system (base color and clear coat). Not exact, but very close. I wanted to use it as a touch-up, however the color was a touch darker, so I ended up painting whole parts. Transitions on the same panel were visable, but on seperate items it is hard to see the difference. I also wanted to clear-coat over the emblems anyway. Sorry no formula though.
