Hey guys! Well i stored my bike this winter in side! Well i replaced the statior ! It was bad!! Well i also had to change out the fuel tubes and vent tubes( i broke one taken it apart) well all new vent tubes and fuel tubes! Now the thing will not start! I cleaned the carbs and i am sure the carbs are getting fuel to the Bowls! I put some gas in the carb intake and it fires right uo then dies and does not try to fire after that! I pulled the air box back off and put my hand over the intake of the carbs and it tried to run but died after that! Any one have any ideas on what i should do now? Just want thid thing to run again! Thanks for your time and any information u have!

Try jumping the fuel pump until it bogs down and stops. I would bet it will start.

^^ that probably means that no fuel from the tank is getting TO the pump. try feeding gas into the inlet side of the pump from a bottle. maybe a clogged main fuel filter ?

If I was a betting man, I'd bet that this is vacuum petcock related. Make sure you have the vacuum line connected properly to both the petcock and the port. Check that the line doesn't have any tears.

Apologies because I'm taking a bit of a leap because I've never seen your model bike before, but I'm betting it's the same as a 500's setup. What I normally would have to do to fire the bike for the first time of the year was prime the bowls by hooking up an aux tank to fill the bowls and then connecting everything back up before firing. The fuel in the bowls provided enough run-time that the fuel flow would make it to the pump and then into the carburetor. The problem was if you ran out of fuel with no way to prime the bowls (forgetting to turn the petcock from OFF to ON), you couldn't prime the thing.

I think you're close to having it running again.

That is your clue. Pump is running. No fuel.

to prime my vtr250 i pull the vacuum line line off the cylinder tap and suck on it for a few seconds, alot easier than the above method. yeah, i suck.

I didn't turn any screws on the carbs! Think maybe the main jets are not pulling up fuel? Well the bike had the factory vent tubes on it with a line going to nothing! I bought aftermarket vent tubes that do not have that line! Think that would be the trouble? I will post picture of what i changed out! Thanks for all the help so far!

I think my pump died! I unhooked it and no fuel came out! What's the psi that it needs? Any one know of a good fuel pump out there?

I don't think your issue is the carburetor--I think it lies between getting fuel from your fuel tank to your fuel pump. You said the bike ran when you primed up the bowls, but won't run connected to the fuel tank. If the bike ran perfectly with an auxiliary fuel tank (hypothetical), you could reasonably assume that the issue was either with the petcock, the fuel filter, or the fuel pump.

You can test the petcock by disconnecting the fuel line outlet and sucking on the end of the vacuum line. Do you have fuel coming out? Petcock is probably fine. You can test the fuel filter by disconnecting the outlet and dispensing into a catch bucket while starting. Fuel coming out when cranking? Probably not a fuel pump issue. Not sure about your bike, but the fuel pump is prior to the inlet of the pump on a VF500. I don't have a great way to check that besides that if the fuel pump test passed, it's probably okay.

**also, if you test the fuel pump this way, make sure you have a fire extinguisher nearby.. that's what I did.

the vent line must be left open..........to vent.

keep the carb set attached to the airbox bottom or risk screwing things up.

try reading the factory service manual !

try putting the airbox and filter back on since they never run right without them. there should be no doubt about fuel to carbs if you bottle-feed it, so a new pump is just throwing parts at it.
