Was going home after church and stopped at the last light before the highway and a lady in a suv plowed into the back of the bike. I went up a bit and landed a couple of feet to the side and the bike shot ahead and laid over gracefully in the grass in the ditch 40 feet or so away. the plate holder was bent in and the side cases went flying but couldn't tell anything else i was in no shape to pick it up.

Sorry to hear about that, hope you're all right. Sounds like you're headed for a bike upgrade (a new VFR, not the scooter).

I hope that you will be able to fix or replace the VFR and be riding again soon.

i was in the ground sitting and i remember seeing her in her car and i said very loudly "c'mon what the hell" and she steered clear the rest of the time. Unfortunately we have no-fault insurance here and no one can sue. a guy with a beard came over to see if i was ok and said glad i was ok he's a biker and i could use his harley if i wanted. thanks for the responses guys.

Sheesh - was the driver blind, talking on the phone, or just drunk or high?

If you could stop for a red light why the hell did they not bother? I really hope the police were also called.

However first things first - hopefuly you were not badly injured BUT even so always get yourself checked over by a doctor. Adrenaline can mask a whole heap of injuries. A friend who was taken out by a taxi whilst riding, appeared to recover rapidly and largely ignored nagging leg and shoulder pains for several months, before finally getting a hospital check which revealed broken bones had already re-set out of alignment meaning she will be limping for the rest of her life.

Remember you have been catapulted from your bike and whilst adrenaline can mask a heap of injuries briefly, even a doctor may need XRay images to pick up any broken or fractured bones, also the extra weight of wearing a helmet during a rear impact, can exacerbate things like whip-lash stresses to your neck, which may take a few days to become apparent.

Your health is the most important thing, bikes can be easily repaired or replaced - you cannot.

As for wanting to repair your bike, I can understand that, but again take a pause and think carefully about what potential risks than entails, as opposed to just getting the insurer to give you the funds to find an identical replacement. Remember your bike has taken a serious hit, been punted right across an intersection and into a ditch - bike frames can so easily get distorted leading to the bike never running true again especially if the impact was not perfectly square on. Don't overlook damage to your riding gear - after that sort of impact you should insist they replace your helmet, possibly boots, gloves and anything else affected.

Why should you be worse off because of someone else's inattentiveness? I have always had reservations about "no fault" insurance schemes which are really designed to benefit insurance companies rather than policy holders. It seems very unfair that your insurance record will now get tarnished by having to make a claim for something for which you were entirely blameless.

Take care - let us know how you get on.

thanks. the driver was from the next province where the insurance is different, maybe a plus. I looked at my bike yesterday, it was hit largely in the rear tire and the energy transfered into forward motion. the chain is still tight. the inspector will see if the frame is bent. the way insurance goes they may not give me enough to buy the same again, that's why i want to fix if possible
