OEM Tank liner...true or False

Does anyone know if the gas tank on a 3G had a factory installed liner in it?
I just realized mine has a liner but not sure if it's factory installed or the PO did it.
It's degrading and needs to go either way.
Finally figured out why I was having intermittent stalls unless the choke was on some.

No such thing as a factory installed liner..

 

so whats your plan? and negative ghost rider - these bikes do not have a liner in them, I should know too. I remember working on a GS850 euro bike and the liner detached from the tank and was like a ball sack floating in there.

 

Well, it's a cluster coming my way...sending it off to GTL Advantage in CA. They remove the liner and replace it with an epoxy coating AND will keep the paint intact—hopefully. Tear the carbs down, replace the fuel pump and filter...Sigh. $$$

I was "lucky" enough to have a self-removing liner in my 86...this is what fell out when I pulled the low fuel sender. Fortunately the liner is coming off in fair-sized chunks that lie nicely in the tank bottom without affecting fuel intakes. I know I will be doing the tank clean again at some point, fortunately I'm only dealing with surface rust.

 

not VFR related but a few months ago I was out for a walk in my village and saw a chap pushing a new Africa Twin and asked if he needed help and he said he had run out of fuel so I went home and gave him a couple of litres from my lawnmower can so he could get the couple miles to a garage, he told me he was taking the bike back to Vertu Honda in Grantham as there was a recall on them, the brand new bike tank liner that is supposed to dissolve when the tank is filled was not on some bikes and forming lumps in the tank and possible causing trouble with the injectors so he was asked to run the tank low so the dealer did not have to drain lots of fuel out, that was why he ran out, I think he had about 90 miles on the bike
