I am new to the forum but not new to motorcycles or repairing them. I do have a weird problem that I am looking to see if anyone has any ideas that will save me some diag time. This Interceptor had been stolen and then recovered then sat for about 10 years. I was asked last year to get it running, so I took it and put a new battery in, cleaned the tank and the carbs and got it running fine. A couple months ago apparently it would not start, so I picked it up and checked it out and it started on either, so I cleaned the carbs again and it started fine. They wanted some other things done to it, so I did the other repairs, checked that it started good and put it back together. Put it all back together and it does not want to start. If I hit the starter with the choke off it will light right up, cannot give it any throttle, idle a couple seconds and stall. If I use the choke it will not start at all and if I try to pull the choke after I start it, it stalls. If I start it without the choke, let is idle for a few minutes, it runs fine. I have not had a chance to check it out more, but am almost thinking that it could be an ignition problem?

Also the 86 does not come with an inline fuel filter when they eliminated the fuel pump from 85 to 86. How did the in-tank strainer look? How the did the screens under the float valve seats look? Sounds like you are constantly getting shit back in the carbs. I do not think it is ignition related.
