Hi gentlements, my friend gave me his 1985 Interceptor V4 1000cc. It has been sitting for 10+ years and MISSING THE GAS TANK! I'm looking for a substitute tank from other model or other brand or even those Ebay universal tank from China. Do you have any recommendation? I also need a link to a repair manual if you have any. Basically, it needs to get valve adjustment, carbs clean up job, brake line and clutch line flush, oil change and tires changes etc. Thank you.

    1985 VF1000R

    Technically not a "Interceptor"

It will be a challenge. Be willing to pay premium prices for mediocrity as far as condition. The tank is unique to that model. I have seen VF750F tanks used, but they are almost equally hard to find not smashed and/or full of rust.

And just stop with the "universal tank from China" talk. Either you want to refurbisb a classic Honda sport bike or you don't.

Good luck! And post some pics of yours.

I agree with the clan, stick to a stock VF tank. All the other things you want and must do are " doable" in your garage. Sitting 10 years I would recommend cleaning the brake calipers and bleeding the clutch master cylinder .... basically check EVERYTHING. It's a nice bike so I would personally check and restore the bike completely.

Ok gentlements, i got to meet up with the ebay seller from High Desert in California. He was enrooted to another buyer, so he stopped by my area and hand delivered it for me for $200 cash in my hand to his. His name is Dan, he is a retired marine from Victorville , CA. As of right now, I'm busy with my 3 kids, (7, 5 and 3 and a pregnant wife) right now; however, I have worked on many V4 before like V45, V40 Magna , Sabre and two 500cc interceptors when I was jobless and flipping bikes on Craigslist's about 5 years ago. I have found pdf manual repair for this 85 Honda Vf1000R. This bike is missing the tail sections. I have worked on my friend's VF750cc interceptor which only has cam rear instead of cam chain which was real cool. He sold his bike about 1 year later when he got tired of it. He gave me this 85 VF1000R for the labor and I gave him my 84 Magna V65 which has leaky oil from the pumkin (rear shaft) which i bought for $200 with Cali back fees for $700. I will up you guys updated. thanks again

Was this that Euro one? Hard to tell from picture. I think this tank started out in Greece. If it's the same one, it needs some internal attention.

Nah... this tank popped up on ebay in Cali, but it was the same tank that started out in Greece. Pretty damn sure. Recognize the dent too. When I saw the Cali ebay listing I could tell it was the same tank. And it was right after the Greece one dropped off. Almost bought this tank like 3 times, but it was too big of a question mark.

Now... delivered to me for $200?... I would have took that bet.

Sure looks like the rear is steep like the euro tank

Pretty sure US lost some capacity to make room for our big American fat guts.

Unfortunately it's true. It was reshaped when it was going to be released for the US market. They were concerned about Americans ability to reach the bars comfortably.

"this exhaust is offered on a bill of sale only"

    What?! No title?! No sale!

Pretty sure I sold the owner a stock rear shock for this bike's resto.
