Please post your pictures of an SH847 on your 5th Gen VFR. What cable lengths did you order for you specific mounting location.

I purchased my 98 VFR800 with 13.5k miles in July/2019. I added a VFRness, digital Volt meter and a Sparkbright Eclipse LED volt meter. My VFR already went thru 1 R/R with the previous owner. I believe the one on the bike right now might be a Rick R/R. ( no way to find out, previous owner passed away, his family had to sell his bike and gave me the old stock R/R). My VFR currently has 23.5k miles.

I got some weird readings about 2 month ago while stuck in traffic for a long time. and my eclipse LED was blinking RED. Bike started to idle really low. Kinda wanting to die. Now I don't trust that R/R and the VFRness to be enough.

I want to upgrade to the Roadster Cycle R/R SH847 to be specific. I understand is very large and probably not necessary over the FH020AA. I've been stranded many times on other R/R prone bikes. Not fun!

IF there are not many options, I will go with the FH020AA. Which cable length did you get?

Can you post your mounting location pictures on your 5th GEN for both Roadstercycle R/R, preferably the SH847 . What cable lengths did you get? mounting bracket?

Bike will be my daily commute bike with 2-3 trackdays a year.

Talk to Jack.... I think the FH020AA is OK, but for a series regulator, why not go with the SH775? I got the longer harness, but I don't believe it was necessary.

Running the FH020AA and it's fine....I also had my stator rewound with long leads to go to the R/R and now have the R/R connector direct. -- There's no intermediate connector or solder going on......

So, the question is, how are you planning to wire it up? Are you using the OEM stator?

Suggest step back , search for for "the drill" charging system test.....

I like SF's mount method, a bolt up on the top side and then building kind of a clamp style below the lower subframe. Not bad....didn't realize there is room there. Not really a fan of drilling into the subframe directly, It's adding a stress riser at the loaded area.

I have a 847 mount design for 5th gens, simular to the 6th gen mount plates, but in general the mounts haven't been selling enough to break even on this stuff.....

I am blown away on all this charging system failure stuff is still going on for all these years!

As a btw..... if any of the Roadstercycle R/Rs are wired correctly, the VFRness is a waste of good beer money....

I mounted my new FH020AA reg/rec to the stock mounting plate for the original reg/rec. No adapter plate or clamp required. I drilled the top hole beneath the top subframe tube, and the bottom hole above the bottom subframe tube. The only modification I had to make was to delete the acorn nut from the top mount and replace it with a regular M6 x 2.00 nut. There wasn't room for the flared bottom part of the nut so close to the top tube.

Rivnuts work great in that application. Still a nice install.
