While improvements can be made a stock RC24 is still after all these years a great bike. And compared to modern, emissions constrained, current bikes has a "full fat" power delivery.

    Enjoy.

Thanks 50! Your addendum was very useful. Thank you. I just need a frame and I will hang up my VFR advert. :)

Glad you enjoyed it. There is a bit more to come, but it is going to take a while. CMSNL has lost most of my order and $300 worth of parts and won't return my emails. grrr. Sadly all of this work was just to get the bike rideable. Now comes the money shaker and patience. lol
    enjoy!

    All Yall!!

Do any of you have a direct source for the carb insulators for an 88/89 VFR750 (mostly my UK peeps)? CMSNL lost my original order and I have no idea when I will or if I will get those. None of the US parts suppliers even list my bike. I can't use any from a US model due to larger carbs 34mm vs 36mm unless from a newer model possibly?

So far I have tried :
    * https://www.bike-parts-honda.com/cart 15.73 each BP and 48 BP for shipping. Geezus.
    * CMS still waiting
*Fowlers - Not in stock - left a message
*https://www.motorcyclespareparts.eu/en/shopping-cart - $24 ea + $45 shipped and no timetable or availability status.

Any local foreign help would be appreciated.

    Did CMSNL ship your order?

They did, but I only got 5 out of 54 parts. It seems that FedEx either lost a bunch or their shipping peeps didn't do something right. I am going down to FedEx today to ask WTF.

Sorry to hear that. I have had nothing but great luck with CMSNL. Experiences may vary, apparently. Good luck with FedEx, I've never had any.

I don't think CMSNL is really to blame. I believe FedEx messed up. they never deliver as they list in their own tracking system.
Update from FedEx. "looks like your package was opened at Customs and repacked. You will need to submit a claim with all of the missing items".
    Dislike FedEx so much.
Online - "I'm sorry you need to call".
Call - " mail or fax in claim report".
    filling out report.... FU FEDEX.

So I drove down to our local express FedEx and had several good conversations with them. They got me moving on my lost order. Unfortunately, they will really only refund CMSNL and not me.
At first CMSNL was ghosting me, but as soon as I sent them the case number and information about a claim they can go for I got an email saying my order will be resent after they finish ordering the non-stock items. YAY.
In the meantime, I had already ordered a new set of carb insulators from FowlersUK and should be getting those soon. Long story longer, this hopefully means I have enough gaskets (the ones I received from CMSNL) and the insulators to take the bike apart and get some cleaning and upgrading going on. Top it all off, my seat just came in and fits perfectly.
Just an FYI a 700 seat will work just fine on a 750 and you don't have the notch cut out of the seat. I will get reupholstered down the road.

I went through the same scenario when FedEx lost a brand new set of CRF450L forks on their way back from being modified. They sent the check to the suspension company, who forwarded it to me.

For really big orders, I always try to use David Silver Spares UK for parts that cannot be sourced in the US Honda parts system. They have a US branch in PA. They ship the UK parts to the US, who then boxes them up and sends them out. That way, your order never passes through customs. It is checked in the US, and if you have an issue, they are very responsive. During my RVF build, I placed orders that sometimes exceeded 200 separate pieces...they never dicked up an order.

I did have to order a couple of NLA water pump cover o-rings from CMSNL this week, the order has cleared customs and will be delivered Monday.

^^ I might start using DSS, if that is the case. Good to know. We shall see what I get in a week from CMSNL. :)

Finally! Insulators!!! Thanks to FowlerUK, I can finally proceed on the full tear down of Little Red. This will lead to so much wallet emptying but I have been looking forward to this project fully commencing for awhile.
Hopefully by the time I have the bike torn down fully my CMSNL order will be on it's way with all sorts of rubber bits and pieces. I have a Dutch friend who works at 3am PST and is willing to call CMSNL and throw a little Dutch around to get my order moving possibly.

    Parts ready to go:
    929 caliper swap
    F2 rear spacers
F2 front and rear wheels + new tires mounted
Body work ready to be fitted, drilled, cut, and sanded
    Replacement seat to be re-skinned
Powder coating place holder to get in line (used to be 6 weeks out)
    New Battery (shorai actually installed)

    Stuff to order:
    Coolant hoses
    muffler + modification
    suspension internals- all
    520 conversion
    things I can't remember..lol

So no bike work for another 2 weeks as I am helping my daughter move into her first home.

But, I have a good friend from college who is Dutch. I called him up and asked if he could contact CMSNL direct for me? A little native tongue on the phone to get the ball rolling kind of thing. Well damn, today I got a FedEx tracking number and my parts should ship tomorrow from NL. When this arrives, then I will have most of the rubber bits for the carbs, coolant controls, exhaust seal etc.

Tyga parts to go on order this weekend hopefully. Maybe wait for CMSNL to arrive so I don't have too many orders floating around..lol
Sorry ADD with excitement and anticipation.

Always found CMSNL to be very effective at shipping orders.

My UK special (soon to be copyrighted ..lol) takes a while to warm up and choke is required for a long period (idle around 1k left unchecked and no choke). I am tempted to raise idle, but when I messed with the idle the bike is revving higher ( +200-500 rmp) at full temperature at stoplights. I try to keep a happy medium so I don't pull up to a light at 2k idle. Normal or maybe need a slight tweak on settings?

    * This is ALL assuming carbs were cleaned completely and rebuilt properly *

    Define "long period"
That bike with that jetting should be able to come off of choke VERY soon in anything above 50 deg.

What did you set the pilot screws at?

I think you mentioned new carbs boots, is that true?

If so, are you 100% sure the carbs are fully seated? With new boots they literally "pop" in, not ambiguous.

Certain that any extra vacuum lines from removing "extra" equipment have been properly plugged or routed back to another vacuum port?

Agree should be less than a minute to choke fully off, say 30 secs on a 50degF day and no choke on a warmed engine.

Spec for idle is 1,000rpm +/- 100 rpm so you are spot on.

Could be stuck thermostat? Check if radiator is warming up before bike is off choke.

Do you have E10 petrol in North America ? - if so avoid as only 93 on Honda's certified for E10.

E10 fucking everywhere. Non-E is few and far between, and usually 89. Almost impossible to avoid getting some if you actually ride places. All my bikes (except for my Vintage stuff) get 92 or 93 E10 with no issues*.

*long term negative side effects not included
