Hey guys, long time lurker here!
So yesterday while doing an oil change I also removed parts of the fairings. Upon closer inspection I discovered what appers to be small cracks on some parts of the engine / oil pan. The bike in question is a '91 VFR750F with 67000km that I've only had for ~3000 km. I've never seen these kind fo cracks on an engine before (although my mechanical experience is somewhat limited), so my question is how worried should I be? Is there anything I can / must do if I wanted to preserve the bike?

Pictures of the cracks here: https://imgur.com/a/35wH1CU

Thanks for any help in advance!

I think you will find that those are just marks left over from the process used to cast the engine cases, so nothing to worry about (unless oil starts escaping that is).

Or you could just take it to a polisher, drop it off, head to the bar for a couple cold ones, then go back and pick it up in 2 hours.

Hi Kaylers and Welcome to the MadHouse:Welcome:

When you get time please visit the "introductions" part of the forum to say Hi to the rest of the folks on here. Don't forget to tell us a bit about you and your riding history and add a photo or two of your VFR.

This is VFR WORLD so yes whilst this forum extends truly world wide and there are plenty of us based in Europe so you may want to update your forum profile to include an approximate location region/city as you may even find others living nearby to ride with.

Last September I was just one of a group enjoying the Vulkan Eifel region and a very wet circuit around the Nordschleife (Nurburgring) on my 8th Gen with a group hosted by Ulysses-Club Germany. Also if you ever need help with your VFR - if people know roughly where you are based you may find someone lives nearby and is willing to swing by and offer advice or even pick up a wrench especially if you have a well stocked beer fridge:drink:.

PS those "cracks" look like casting marks which have probably been there since the motorbike was made - so nothing to worry about unless there is evidence of an oil leak from any of those cracks.

Have fun with your VFR and take care ATGATT

Wow - I have several riding friends in Sankt Wendel in the Saarland who ride with Ulysses-Club.de and several more in the Vosges who ride with the Ulysses-Club.fr. If you are up for it from 25-27 June the Ulysses-Club.ch is hosting this years European Meeting in the Leysin Ski Resort which overlooks Lac Leman (Lake Geneva). As always there are organised rides and plenty of entertainment in the evenings and groups will be arriving from the Saarland and all over Europe. If you want to know more check out the relevant club websites.

In the meatime have fun on your VFR.
