Hahaha good idea on the nub. I here ya on the key. One is for fuel and helmet lock. The other is for ignition. I might need to do a hide a key situation or just go tyga fuel entry, since this bike does not sleep outside or travel beyond my zip currently. Work, home, and fun rides. I should not need to remove seat although my fuel relay jumper is under the seat. Hmmm

I look back at my post and think, how the F do I keep saying this and that will get done and how often it really does. Time flies and my new goal is to be ridable by the end of the year. I did some more seat shaving yesterday and lots of little "oh yah that thing I didn't do's" yesterday as well. I have a complete plan in place for the exhaust so this week I will be cutting and taping into position.
I had to reinforce my mid-plastic lower mount hole due to extreme spider cracks. I used a combo of small bits of fiber glass and plastic weld. See how it holds up. I will cruise through the shop this week in search of some rando abs plastic as well.

I have a couple bikes that need two keys. I secure them together using the real small zip-ties. When in the ignition, the other key is pointing straight up and not bouncing around. And can't be forgotten for one of the worst feelings in the world at a gas station.

    image.jpg Custom exhaust update.
Nearly complete. Apparently for less than $20 in KTM OE pipe junkan and a good ole friend who can weld I was able to complete this 2-1 into my Tyga can...carbon so...into my composite can? ;)

    image.jpg

the tip is really close to the turn signal so I will make a new hanger that is dropped by an inch and one more spring hanger welded onto the original rear header this week hopefully.
The seat did not go well so for now I am using the original RED seat..ooooof too much red..hahaha The upholstery guy is giving the other seat another try. Solution for the second key.

    Yeah looking good!

I don't know if you knew this ahead of time, but I think you got kinda lucky on the gas cap. Those caps that fit the early CBRs, Hawks, etc... do not fit the 86 - 87 VFR. The bolt pattern is slightly different. Which means Honda switched to the more standardized version for the 88 - 89. Cool! Learned another thing.

^^ I did have to drill out the cap through holes to make it fit without putting any kind of cross thread on the tank. Also had to make a smaller gasket to seal the cap to tank interface. I was a little irritated when I went for the first try but the I got it to fit. The next test is a full tank of gas. If it doesn't work then back to the original cap and key.
So I would not consider this a direct fit for sure. Sorry to get your hopes up..lol

    Aaaahhhhh. Yeah.

Weirdly, a Kawasaki Type 2 is the right bolt pattern. But there is some modding to make it work. I've done 3 now.

Yeah it does. I think lowering it to not melt the turn signal will also make it look better. It will better match the natural line of up-swept rear bodywork.

Weeellll now. That was a hoooot! First road test with the Tyga custom exhaust and bodywork together. Baby steps only because everything that is left to do over the last 3 months is completely custom.
Exhaust works great. The Tyga carbon is the bomb. Gives you a real visceral feel without bleeding your eardrums dry. Hit 112 and starting pulling even harder. Jeeezus. This is 1988? wow.
The suspension is perfect except for my installation of head bearings. I must have blown that somewhere with the minor "stop sign" approach speed bounce. To be fixed at a later date. Much later... I know, I know, but right now I just want to ride the damn thing after being kooked up in the garage for over a year waiting for one thing or another.
Hopefully, my coworker will water jet a new stainless muffler hanger to drop the Tyga down a bit this week. I made a quicky during the week just so I could ride the bike for a bit.
No leaks when I got back so that is amazing! I will have a bunch of days off real soon, so I can work on the fender and the VF500.

    great job

i'm a worrier i admit so i'd be concerned about the reliability and safety of the front brake rotors..............especially if it's from china, and you are the test pilot.

so many thin sections might lead to cracking in hard use, it's fancy but maybe not as good as oem rotor at stopping.

the front brake rotor is critically important, nowhere to be running anything other than oem or better or your ass on terra firma, no place for chineze parts made outta melted down coffee cans.

i'd never trust the quality of a chineze brake rotor with my life at stake. harbor freight brake rotors, not for me.

I am runnin these Galfer wave rotors. I agree about the chinese stuff. My front end issues seems to be seated head bearing related.

Galfer = "Every high-quality, Galfer-patented Wave® rotor is made from a proprietary mix of virgin high carbon 420 stainless steel, laser cut (never stamped), double disc-parallel ground to assure perfect parallel flatness and heat treated to each specific application. KBA and TUV approved. Seamlessly replaces stock rotor. Full instructions are provided along with any technical help needed! Precision made in our Galfer factory in Spain"
