    Hello!

I don't know how but the pipe coming out of the expansion bottle has made its way to the headers and has burnt slightly.

Unfortunately coolant has begun to leak. Is there a way to patch this for the short term until I get a new part?

It can make your engine to overheat , which can cause further engine damage, you should definitely replace it, any alternatives I recommend to you will only just make you keep spending unnecessary, the best way for you is to buy a new one , well you can try a duct -tape with a couple fat worm gear clamps over it right at the crack, but it depends on the magnitude of the breach.

I decided to replace the hoses considering the bikes 18 years old! When it comes to working on my bike I don't really consider myself skilled but I've been taking my time over the past week with the help of YouTube and this site!

Thought I may as well replace the thermostat while I'm in there and the radiator sensor too!

If your bike is still in bits I can highly recommend replacing the o-rings under the coolant elbows that bolt to the cylinders. Very cheap, easy to do while the bike is stripped and a pretty common leakage point in older bikes.
