Boston VFR700 wait .. VF700F yea that's the ticket

    So in '84 there was both a 700 and 750? I've heard of the phrase "tariff buster"....so that's why the 700 was produced?

    The 700 is really a 699 to avoid the tarriff that Reagen imposed at the request of Harley. I believe the 750s were always sold alongside the 700s except for maybe in 87/88 when only the 700 was sold in the US.

    "On April 2, 1983, President Ronald Reagan signed an action that significantly increased tariffs on imported motorcycles with engines over 700 cc displacement. Effective that month, the 4.4-percent rate then in place rose to 49.4 percent but was set to decline each year afterward: 39.4 percent in the second year, 24.4 percent in the third, 19.4 in the fourth, 14.4 in the fifth and then back to the original 4.4."

    Not sure about the VF but the VFR just has a shorter stroke crank and longer rods compared to the 750. I owned two and thought they had plenty of beans.
