the contacts are usually part of a seperate unit screwed under the lock mechanism, so no need to disassemble that and possibly loose ur balls.

i shoot some WD40 lube into all my lock slots at least once a year.

The "contact base" cover is shattered on one side, and the little tabs that hold it in are all boogered up. Someone has been here before me I think. The bolts came off Way too easy

I will probably break it more if I try to get that base off.

Resistance across the 2 red wires from the switch are 0 after cleaning all the male spades to shiny brass.

Still get wonky values at the coil plug if I jiggle the key so there's something going on in there.

Worthwhile to pursue using a different key switch?

I would never trust that switch out on the road.

If you wanted to eliminate for testing, and sourcing a replacement, you can "hot wire" the bike with a quality toggle.

My "RC26" hasn't had a keyed switch it's whole life.

I got the key switch apart finally.

Cleaned with deoxit and reassembled. Checking voltage at the coil wires I am seeing steady voltage, even while wiggling the key.

Wish I could find an unbroken cover.. only have 2 tabs holding it in

Now I am pulling apart all the other connections and cleaning. I will probably grab a new battery as well, the flooded.cell I had never really stayed around 12.6, even after a full charge on the charger. I will be looking into an AGM for replacement. Maybe Scorpion?

    Still stumped.

Voltage at key switch red wire= battery voltage at battery terminals, 12.xx

Voltage at key switch red/black wire=battery voltage less .2v probably not normal

Also read same -.2v from battery voltage at red harness plugs behind cowl through the fuse panel, which I assume feed the spark units. Bl/r and y/r go to the spark units and the pulse generator

So the key switch to spark unit connector is good, but the key switch is losing voltage internally if I am understanding correctly?

Anyone have a link or file to the wiring schematic?

Should I try using an aftermarket key switch like Emgo?

I can provide a diagram later. but why don't you just eliminate the switch as a test and see if everything works normally without it?

    Saying from the Honda shop...

Red + Red/Blk = Grn (as in GO) HOTWIRED

Disconnect the ignition switch plug and jump those two connectors on the harness side.

Was thinking of doing that, but the jumper/toggle.idea has me intrigued.

Will try the jumper later.. still waiting on the spark plug removal tool and I am starting a dry cure on a slab of pork belly for the smoker

Help is always appreciated guys, thanks

Jumpered the harness wires just now and cranked for about 3 seconds choke on. Fired right up.

I guess this identifies the switch as junk.

Such a lovely feeling to have her run.

You guys wanna come over for bacon, beer and bourbon?

    Ha!

Back to her old antics again.

Hooked up the fuel tank and she won't fire.

She fired up this morning no issue, but I didn't have the regulator leads connected so she died when the battery got low..

Bad battery? Cranking volts hit 10.. standing volts 12.65

You guys can still come over for BBB tho

Hook up a known good jumper battery, like a car. Then you will know that too.

I'll bring one with me, since it sounds like you have everything else ready for me.

VF/VFRs like good batteries, even if it sounds like they are "cranking" ok with some speed.
