This could turn into a swap meet for plate collectors..... who knows. I desire to have an authentic Michigan cycle license plate, specifically with a 1998 tab. It needs to be the blue one with white lettering. PM me with a photo if you have one available.
FYI, there are clubs for this. They have meets and everything. Maybe worth looking into. Much larger audience than our little corner of Al Gore's Internet.
I found one on fleabay. Here in Michigan we have the option of registering/ licensing our vehicles as "historic" if it it 26 years past it's manufacture date. In my case, my fifth gen is a '98 model, so it qualifies. The intent is for those who have a vehicle that is owned as an antique or collector. The law was updated last spring to allow the use of the vehicle for any reason (no restrictions) between the end of May and the beginning of September, which is 80% of the riding that I do. The following is copied from the State of Michigan. https://www.michigan.gov/sos/all-services/historical-authentic-plates "Owners of historic cars, motorcycles, and trucks have the option of registering their antique vehicle with either a Michigan historical license plate or an authentic Michigan license plate. Definition and use of a historic vehicle To qualify for a historical or authentic license plate, the vehicle must be: At least 26 years old. (Age is calculated by subtracting the vehicle model year from the current calendar year.) Owned solely as a collector's item. Used only for events such as historic club activities, parades, and car shows. Historic vehicles cannot be used for routine transportation. Note: The restriction on the use of a historic vehicle is suspended during the period from Memorial Day to Labor Day, allowing these vehicles to be driven at any time (MCL 257.20a)."
I wish. I've long wondered why we can't insure and register only the most expensive one and just move the plate. I can only drive/ride one vehicle at a time, but am forced to pay for eight. Should be illegal.
