I do paint work for my buddies, but they're alot closer by. It would be cost prohibitive to mail all that stuff.

Even if you wanted to, they wont allow a gas tank to be shipped into Canada anymore, heck I cant even get a cylinder head shipped here off Ebay. they confiscate the stuff, so if its been in contact with fuel, apparently we're SOL here now. I've had a Gas tank and a Cylinder head confiscated in the past 12 months !

As somebody who has had to internationally ship work clothing, tools, and equipment that had been in contact with Jet A, JP-4, JP-8, etc, and get the stuff through customs, what works the best is to throw a bunch of deodorant sticks in the package. Number of sticks determined by size of package and level of exposure.

Well paint here is astronomical. Body shops quote $1000 per panel for automobiles. Fooking crazy. I might go to Vegas just to check prices. lol

Same Here. Most bodyshops have 3 month wait, most wont take anything except insurance jobs, and almost no one will do bikes. Bike parts tank up as much space as a car in the booth and you end up having to leave them there for a day. in that time you can roll multiple cars in and out, so no one wants the booth tied up

Ive also noticed paint prices here for DIY jobbers like me has gone sky high. I recently switched paint suppliers as the previous place got too expensive ($120-300 CAD per Pint depending on colour). Clear Coat is now $115 CAD pre sprayable Quart (ill hardener) ---- Madness

    Yikes.

The paint shop that was doing a repair fucked up a color match after insisting they could do it. After a couple months I finally said, "Do we need to talk about painting the whole bike?"

    "Yes"

Keep in mind this bike was flawless except for this 1" scratch I put in it on the final assembly after servicing and updating EVERYTHING on the chassis. I couldn't live with it and the chance of finding a good or new upper left cowl is very small. I still haven't seen one I would buy regardless of cost in 2 years now. 1995 VFR Pure Red.

    "What is that gonna cost?"

"What I was gonna charge you initially."

I was getting an extra seat cowl painted and an extra rear taillight piece that is also impossible to find. $600

    PXL_20230815_034635136[1].jpg

I bought another tank, cuz repainting a perfect tank seemed a bit too blasphemous and he agreed to it. If I could have I would have bought every other piece too, but that was not in the spirit of the deal and would have taken too long.

Every piece painted. Pieces that were getting decals were roughed and I picked up to apply graphics and then dropped for clear.

I gave him a bottle of gin, sixer of cider and $1000 cash. It was all I could do. He appreciated the gesture and knew it was his fuck up. I would rather have original body work but in the end I really don't care. It's not about investment or resale. And I'm happy, as it's a little different and custom.

By scratching in the first place?! I lost a couple of years off of my life with the screaming and self-cursing session I had. And then more when I tried to touch it up. That fucking color DOES NOT TOUCH UP. It just continues to highlight your fuck up. My wife just said, "Jesus Christ dude. Get it fixed."

I am such a weird fucker, I can live with scratches and blemishes from years of patina on bikes I acquire... but when I am responsible for fucking up a perfect bike... I go into a tail spin. Especially on a bike I wanted for years and finally found such a sweet example.
