Ran my White '86 out to my storage unit and swapped her with my '86 Mini-ceptor this morning. Both machines ran flawless! I always keep one bike in my home garage that is complete and ready to ride at the drop of a hat.

LOVE this little 500.....so smooth and quiet......runs like a little sewing machine!

They show up for sale all the time. I was lucky to get both of mine locally - no shipping cost!

Didn't understand the rest of what you posted......smokin'?

Went to visit a veterans memorial this morning and (in my head and towards the skies) asked my grandpa how he was able to display such patience with all the mechanical hands on work he did his entire life. The amount of patience that man had becomes more and more impressive to me every day.

First ride on the VF this year. It has an awful hanging idle. Fiddled with it to even get it to idle quite a bit yesterday. Did about 30 miles today. The hanging idle is annoying, but it's not unrideable. I'll put some time into diagnosing it soon. I'll try to approach it with some patience.

Thanks for the reminder of this solemn day of remembrance, Matt.

    Your 5oo is gorgeous!

I would try to offer some suggestions to help with your hanging idle issue, but it's basic troubleshooting and probably stuff you've already looked into.

    Cheers, my friend!

Hanging idle you say. I had to pull the RVF400 carbs off to fix my issues. Turns out the should be done in sequence, which I totally screwed up. Basically cylinder 2/4 were wound too tight, which caused the rest to hold open about .5-1mm.
I learned to loosen everything (springs on each carb link) and verify opening on the carb #1. Then tighten everything to match carb #1. Not sure if that explains it, but saved me from riding that bike into the ocean. :)
Hope all are remembering the sacrifices of others so we can have these cool bikes and talk trash on the nets. :)

I'm guessing the regular air/fuel troubleshooting heuristics list will eventually get me to the solution. I did have a thought when I was riding home yesterday from something Captain had mentioned about A/F mixture screws and their tendency to back out if you're running a loose screw setting. I'm not (I think either 2 to 2.5 turns), but still something easy to check with the bike in place. I can throw the Carbtune gauges on it too to see if it's way out of whack somehow.

Odds are the carburetor is going to need to come off if nothing obvious shows up. It will settle down to a low idle, it just hangs for many seconds. Like 5 or more. I've just been bringing it down with the clutch in gear coming to a stoplight.

I'm just wanting not wanting to pull the carburetors yet until I have my SV race bikes together because there are parts all over the place right now. All of my staging and organizational trays are tied up.

Absolutely. Anytime I get wound up about something trivial I try to think about the sacrifices so many made to even allow me to get wound up about things so trivial. Makes me realize my issues in life are pretty trivial. And then I come here to talk trash you with on the nets :)

I was also going to mention the obvious.. insulator boot tightness. My 500 got me on that one. :)

Left the house at 7 am, got home at 7 pm. 2-1/2 tanks of fuel.

This is the top of Chinook Pass in the Mt Ranier National Forest. Opened not too long ago for the season.

image.jpg That is super cool Capt.

Been traveling for work so no progress on D 2fiddy, but I found time today to put on my smaller rear sprocket 43T and rebuild my blinker switch gear (sticky).

I am in love with Big Red as a sport cruiser. 20 mile pop and she is going to be my daily along with the Duc.

Dropped 2 rear teeth and now I can cruise 80 at 5800, with just the right amount of torque to pass without dropping a gear.

    Dis is for Bazza.

Two days up and back to Road America on the VF. Largest 2 wheeled event crowd ever at Road America this weekend--that was pretty cool. Saturday I rode up with my dad. I worked out the running issue, and now she's running sweet. I had the idle set all kinds of messed up trying to get it to run right when it was seemingly firing on only 3 cylinders. About 270 miles the last two days, and now she's back.

100%. I'll do it for as long as he's willing. He doesn't ride too much anymore but he does love that BMW.

It was a cool event for us and especially him. Sort of a downer too in some respects. We sponsor a rider who was making his 4th attempt at breaking into the MotoAmerica grid at Road America. Second year for us sponsoring. He made the show on his #411 bike. The rider is awesome and has basically been my mentor into my own foray into racing. He's done an awesome job selling crew shirts and stuff, and there were so many people walking around with his company's logo on it, it had to be pretty cool to see.

Unfortunately, Ryan (rider) hit a false neutral on lap 3 in the Stock 1000 race entering the bike chicane and highsided him over the bars. So when my dad and I finally got up to see him on Saturday... he was in a sling getting ushered to the medical tent. Sucks. It's racing and that's how it goes. I just know how much that guy puts into this effort and I hate seeing it for him. But he'll be back.
