Hello all. Just finished a lengthly rebuild - 5th gen 2000 model with HISS. Now I can't get it to start, when I turn the key the fuel pump normally primes although sometimes fails to do so. It was running ok before I pulled it apart. Coils are sparking but injectors are not injecting. With the key on, and ecu disconnected, when I ground the injector pins I can here them click (as they should). I sprayed easy start down the throttle bodies and now it starts and runs for a few seconds. So I suspect issue with the HISS system or with the ECU itself, can't really be anything else if the injectors work when triggered manually. Would like to hear if anyone else has any thoughts. I'm pretty keen to swap a pre HISS ECU in. If anyone has a wiring diagram for 5th gen with HISS with ECU pinout that would be appreciated. I already have one for non HISS model. My harness has a few extra wires but I haven't been able to trace where they go to.
For an update, after trying many things the situation has improved but I cannot figure out what I did to bring this about. Now it is delivering fuel, the spark seems to be sometimes occuring at the wrong time resulting in flame back through the throttle body. Double checked against the wiring diagram that I had all the right coils on the right cylinders and with the right wires running to them. It's running on cylinder 1 and sometimes cylinder 3. The front two don't seem to do anything except spit flames though I think all 4 worked together for a second and sounded great and then back to running on one. At this point I have no idea what I did to improve the situation or get it sorted but I reckon it has to be in the wiring harness. It feels like poor earth problem but my earth leads seem to be in very good condition at least the bits I can see.
Going from memory, someone can confirm the location..... there is an orange ground spider connector taped into the main wire harness, I believe near the voltage regulator.... several green ground wires in there and sometimes one or two are burnt.... might want to check and eliminate that as a source of grounding problems.
I'm so confused. Currently running on the back two cylinders and running quite well. No change to the engine note when I disconnect the leads to the front cool so front two cylinders are out of action. With spark plugs removed the front coils are sparking nicely. While running I can see fuel being injected in the throttle body. Front cylinders have good compression 190 psi. So that only leaves good spark at the wrong time but I can't imagine how even a faulty ECU would do that to the front cylinders and not the back. Btw Rayzerman the ground spider connector you refer to is clean.
