    how many miles on ride

I have been debating on wether to use auto oil or stick with moto oil. I have been doing research for about a year and a half on all the pros and cons, then I ran up on a post of this guy had a cbr 900, the first day he got it, he put regular castrol auto oil in it, ran up to 100,000 miles, then raced it awhile, then at about 200,000 got him another, but still kept that one and said it still ran like the day he got it. So my mind is set, I use castrol gtx 1040 in winter and 2050 in summer, in all my bike now and cars. Hope this gives you some insight on all this ( you are only supposed to use moto oils in motorcycles) crap. Of course the dealers are going to tell you to use this, because they make money off the high price moto oils. Like I said I have done research on this, about the additives, ingredients, talking to people and conclusion is you can use automotive oil, just pick the right one.

This isn't the thread I was looking for but hell, lets kick some life into an old thread. If someone can come up with the more popular thread about high mileage, please remind us. As of today, I have 231,070 km on the clock of my 2006. That is 143,580 miles. The only major thing I have done to this bike is a clutch rebuild. The rest was regular maintenance. Oh ya. Last winter I replaced all the brake lines with braided lines only because they are old and have not failed yet. But why wait for that. It has been painted twice though. Winter riding is hard on the paint.

It is great to hear that your bike is still trucking on Randy. I bought a cheap, lightly abused 09 last year and have put 8000km on it (now to 92000km I think) and that runs very sweetly although I did put new clutch discs in as it was a bit grabby and it needed new CCTs. I've looked "inside" and the cams and bearings are like new. The only odd bit of wear on this is a loose rear calliper mount that I can feel rattling sometimes; I think the carrier plate is a little loose on the eccentric hub, it can't go anywhere but isn't "snug" like on my 99 (which has similar mileage). I've also got 136000km on my ST1300 but those are known to be un-killable. IMG_7395 (1).JPG

Oh, 6000km ride on a 2000 VFR. I'm walking around bow-legged now and my right hand will never be the same.

When I retired for the second time, I rode my 06 for 5 weeks and 8,000 miles, down into Ca and around southern Cali, into Arizona, up through Utha , into Colorado then got lost for a day or so, and a couple days later ended up in Winnipeg then eventually back home on Canada's west coast. What a trip. Would love to do it again but I think at my age, that ship has sailed.
